Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, the Accountant will provide assistance with the management of all divisional accounting functions, financial management and maintenance of the computerized accounting systems.

Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
• Completes full cycle accounting tasks while maintaining appropriate financial management controls.

· (AR, AP, GL analysis, journal entries, bank reconciliations and reporting end period tasks.)
• Assists with the preparation of the Division’s statistical data, financial and budget reports, procedures, and audits.
• Assists with warehouse management, surplus items coordination and other purchasing duties as assigned.
• May be responsible for specific fund accounting functions and tax filings.
• Reporting for various external grants.
• Provides training and assistance to schools and other divisional staff as required.
• Performing internal audits.
• Assists in establishing... and maintaining internal accounting, controls and documentation.
• Supports Accountants and Purchasing Secretary as required.
• Assists Supervisor with any ad-hoc projects and analysis as required.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

• Enrollment or completion of a professional accounting program (CPA), with minimum of five years accounting experience or equivalent
• External applicants must supply a Criminal Record Search and a cleared Child Abuse Registry check upon hire
• Additional qualifications listed would be considered an asset:

· Courses towards Supply Chain Management Professional Designation (SCMP)

· Two years relevant purchasing experience as a buyer or purchasing clerk

· Experience in RFP and RFQ development

· Experience or knowledge of the public school system, and or public sector.

· Supervisory experience and training delivery

Skills and abilities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact and work cooperatively and harmoniously with all levels of staff and the public
• High degree of initiative, organizational and time management skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Excellent analytical and computer skills, including spreadsheets, word processing and email (Microsoft Office, Teams etc.)
• Experience with computerized accounting systems
• Thorough knowledge and technical skills in accounting, purchasing and vendor relations
• Respect confidentiality of work

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Physical demands:
• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
• Reading lengthy documents
• Hand-held telephone receiver may require repetitive arm-stretching and elbow-bending action
• Extensive use of computer mouse and keyboard
• Prolonged periods of viewing computer monitor
• Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. may be required

Working conditions:
• Exposure to noise and frequent interruptions with conflicting demands.
• Sitting for long periods of time may be required
