Introduction

Are you a bachelors or master's student in Statistics or Industrial Engineering looking for an apprentice internship? Does Spotfire and Matlab interest you? Do you understand correlation and causation? Then this internship might be interesting to you!

Background information

The system industrialization department is responsible for industrializing serviceability, reliability and cost aspects of ASML's advanced lithography systems. These systems are extremely complex and have many subsystems and failure modes.

When these manifest and start making a significant impact on the availability of the system, containments and solutions have to be identified. These solutions can have a large lead time. Once available they will typically not be installed at the same time on all... machines.

Your assignment

There will be two assignments, based on your level of experience and knowledge you will be placed on the most suited assignment as mentioned below.
• Correlation and causation in availability trends.

It is quite a challenge, because of the complexity of the information structure and the size of the operational installed base to have accurate causal inferences of the impact of solutions on average availability. It could also be for instance that, by the market demand, that the requested production is just not high. Availability is the time the system is available to run its intended function. Productivity capabilities depends on the product as well as on the machine's specificities. The goal is to make a step with automating availability trends against WPD, given all the context factors that exist from a customer's perspective.

Tasks may include but not limited to
• Learn about availability engineering (inc. adagio wow);
• Create relevant data and information and tooling landscape;
• Take the 3600 IBS as subject of the investigation, map out a timeline of availability and implemented solutions;
• Investigate and identify example of both causal directions (WPD influence on availability, availability loss impacting WPD), taking into account the implementation dates of solutions with a known anticipated gain;
• Possibly come up with alternative metrics to describe reliability performance as a function of machine utilization/productivity related KPI's;
• Set up automated analysis.
• Optimizing feedback to improve availability.

When ASML is designing new systems, we want take the right lessons learned at the right time from our installed base of machines at our customers as well as from the machines and rigs in our factory. SEveral potential information sources exist to log issues and orders as well as on the machines status and events. Some tools exist already but refinements and evaluation might be necessary to really benefit from them. Cognisearch being one of them.

In this assignment we are particularly interested in using machine learning techniques to provide automated feedback on potentially structural issues which limit a system's availability capability.

Task may include but not limited to
• Learn about availability engineering and the design phases;
• Create or gather relevant data and information and tooling landscape in the factory, the industrialization department and the field;
• Map the stakeholders for the various data sources;
• Take the 3800 as a subject of the investigation;
• Summarize existing automatic feedback systems;
• Make recommendations and summarize bottlenecks (cognisearch, eagle, manual analyses);
• Learn about service, availability engineering and cycle time engineering;
• Recommendations for improving existing tools/data flows.

Your Profile

To be a perfect match for this internship, you
• Have a bachelor or masters in Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Engineering of complex machines, Information Theory, or Data Mining;
• Are familiar with data processing and analysis tools such as spotfire, power bi, excel, matlab;
• Understand correlation and causation and analytics;
• Understand wafer productivity and how this is measured, and the important context information is;
• Are solution oriented and have a hands-on mentality;
• Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written)

This is a bachelor or master's internship with the duration of 6 months, for 4-5 days a week, starting as soon as possible.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
