jobs description

Cemit is a data intelligence company with ambitions to lead a digital transformation of the railway industry globally. As a scale-up supported by top-tier investors, we are a dynamic and customer-centric organization with R&D at the core of our DNA.

Our platform collects data from trains or tracks and uses machine learning and analytics to provide real-time insight into the health of the trains and tracks to drastically improve maintenance efficiency and rail uptime. Together we are leading an intelligent shift that will increase the reliability, affordability, and efficiency of rail transportation.

Today we collect data from more than 30,000 km of railway every day, positioning us at the forefront of data intelligence for the railway industry. By winning Eurostars in 2022 we were recognised as the most innovative SME in Europe among 432 finalists.

We are an international team with headquarters in Skien, Norway, and offices in Oslo.

We are now seeking a Product Designer with... expertise in creating world-class user experiences with data enabled decision support. We already have a strong product in the market with customers and users on three continents. However, as we now are growing from a startup to a global SaaS company, we need to further enhance our usability of the platform. Therefore, we are looking for a new team member to help us enable our vision for future data intelligence in the railway industry.

In this position you will be working in a cross-functional product team where you will be conducting research and defining user needs, creating and validating solutions, and ensuring a seamless end-to-end user experience. You will collaborate closely not only with product, engineers and data scientists, but also other experts in our sales areas as well as frequent interactions with our customers.

Key tasks & responsibilities
• Drive the company with forward thinking, service-minded and user-centric design culture and design strategy.
• Play a key role in the strategic, conceptual, and visual phases of the products we build, including contributing to a company-wide design system.
• Implement and improve solutions and ensure a seamless user experience.
• Contribute to the organisation in establishing and driving appropriate design processes and methodology suitable for the problem at hand.
• Be a part of building and nurturing a strong design culture.
• Ideate product designs for new improvements to our product and ensure a seamless user experience in your product area
• Ensure all designs for end users are accessibility compliant.
• Work closely with our teams and customers to understand needs and make usable solutions.
• Manage and structure the design processes, from discovering user needs to defining product features and designing solutions for our engineers to build.
• Contribute to building a platform-wide design system and design process.

We are looking for a passionate Product Designer who can own the overall design process in a product team and most importantly loves to solve user and business needs. We are looking for a person who has a product-lead mindset, can make data-informed decisions, and who sees opportunities where others don't.

Key things we look for:
• A quick learner with the ability to dive into complex issues, identify the core of the problem, and quickly see potential solutions.
• A current Product Designer, UX Designer, Director of Design or work in a similar role.
• Have at least 5 years of work experience with digital product design in a cross-functional product team.
• Hold a BSc/MSc degree in interaction design or other relevant fields
• Experienced with different design tools (we use Figma the most, but happy to expand our portfolio).
• Experience working in a SaaS company is a plus.
• You understand the benefits of creating and maintaining an accessible design system that makes customer experiences easier and development faster.
• Enjoy responsibility and have great communication skills.
• Passionate about shaping the future of sustainable transport!
• A unique opportunity to influence the future direction of the railway industry, making some of our most sustainable forms of transport more competitive and future-proof
• Ability to apply and grow your skills in a varied real-life environment with easy access to customers and users
• Work with modern technology, including state of the art IoT based data collection and data analytics tools
• Be part of a scale-up journey and greatly influence what we build and how we do it
• A dynamic, international, and supportive work environment with a focus on work-life balance and flexible home office arrangements
• A competitive compensation package that reflects your experience, knowledge, and contribution to the company
