In the role of Senior Technician (Materials) you will be reporting to the work unit manager (Principal Technician), where you will undertake material testing in line with departmental standards, Australian Standards and other well recognised test methodology. You will provide advice and consultancy in interpretation of departmental standards, procedures, protocols and guides including the use of technical systems to TMR and industry.You will manage, research and investigate projects as part of the ongoing development of materials testing and investigation practices. As a senior technician you will deliver specialist laboratory, field and surveillance services associated with transport infrastructure within a significant and diverse materials environment.Some of your responsibilities will include:- Perform accurate sampling and testing of soils and aggregates.- Write clear and concise reports explaining the results of tests performed.- Provide specialist technical advice and minor... consultancy to departmental staff, other government agencies, Industry and consultants on:- Procedural aspects of complex tests and give interpretation for specialist test results,- Interpretation and application of specifications and technical notes, and- Assist with the management, supervision and coordination of unit and/or project staff including contractors using contemporary human resource and occupational health and safety (OH&S) principles and practices in a dynamic and often high-risk environment.- Undertake client and stakeholder liaison/consultation to ensure expectations and needs are managed, and projects are being delivered, performance is reviewed, and issues addressed as required.- Develop technical systems and support documentation; draft testing methodologies, administrative procedures, staff instructions and OH&S instruction, as well as facilitate the implementation of systems and standards.- Act as a senior NATA signatory for specialist tests and sampling as well as:- Draft technical reports for specialist investigations, audits and instrumentation projects, summarising findings and providing options,and- Report OH&S risks and issues to management.- Assist with training and technology transfer initiatives including development programs by providing structured training programs and project linked and on-the-job coaching to TMR and industry engineering personnel, as well as assist with the development and maintenance of competency levels for Materials Services staff.Mandatory qualifications and conditions:- Possession of a Diploma of Laboratory Technology or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution or registered training organisation.- A current 'C' class driver licence.For more information on this exciting role and on how to apply, please refer to the attached Role Description.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/565324/24Closing Date: Thursday, 30 May 2024
