About ARU

ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas... assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.

About The Role

We are looking for two Associate Professors who will work as part of the Centre leadership team – helping to set the strategic direction, research, and funding priorities. They will be responsible for the inception and effective delivery of innovative and collaborative research projects, through their leadership and management of research teams within the Centre and beyond. Securing external funding and assisting other colleagues to do likewise will be an important aspect of this role. The post-holder will take responsibility for the use of research resources to ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget and with a good quality outcome, this will include leadership in the use of the newly constructed social sciences research laboratory at ARU Chelmsford.

The new Centre will have a strongly collaborative approach with local, regional, and national uniformed public services organisations to tackle issues around equality, diversity, and inclusion. So, the post-holders will have the opportunity to work closely and collaboratively with these organisations on research and evaluation challenges. Alongside supervising PhD/Professional Doctorate students there will be opportunities to contribute to postgraduate teaching and learning.

The successful candidates will have PhD or Professional Doctorate in an appropriate subject area or Professional qualification in a relevant subject area. You will have a track-record of research impact, including experience of working with policymakers and/or public sector organisations to deliver evidence-based change.

These posts offer a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience of leading collaborative research projects to join our excellent team and be at the heart of this important new Centre, as well as supporting the research excellence within both VFI & PIER.

Informal enquiries can be made to the team at [email protected]
