Working hours –

Monday to Friday 36.25 hours p/w. Unsocial hours (evenings) / weekend work (Saturdays) may be required.

Contract type – Fixed Term

Fixed Term 12 month position until 01/07/25.

About the Role

The Trafford Historic Building Plan Collection (1850 to 1989) contains an estimated 100,000 individual building plans from private residential and public building projects constructed across the modern-day borough of Trafford. We have an exciting vacancy for a trained archivist to play a leading role in organizing and cataloguing this historically important collection which contains items... of international interest. Duties will include identifying key subject matter for digitization, correctly handling and preserving rare and fragile plans, in addition to supervising a team of staff and volunteers during the project.

About you

Your style and approach will reflect our values and behaviours: you will need excellent organisational and time management skills with an ability to forward plan and prioritise your own workload and the workload of others to complete tasks within deadlines; you will be required to have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate key information in a way that is clear and understandable to a range of audiences; you will keep up to date with relevant regulations, legislations relating to public access to historical building plans and be able to advise staff and volunteers on the best procedures.

Trafford Local Studies & Archives preserves, manages and provides access to archive records which relate to the former towns and rural areas which, since 1974, make up the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford. Trafford’s collections include archival records created by organisations or institutions, business records, and personal papers.
