SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Engineering Services Lead provides day to day guidance and leadership to work crews and contracted staff for activities related to the installation and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation and controls systems for Corporate facilities. This includes coordinating activities with corporate groups, area and district staff, consultants, contractors, commissioning teams, customers and the public and ensuring that work is performed safely and in accordance with applicable standards, policies, practices and legislative/regulatory requirements.

Core Responsibilities

Construction Coordination
• Hold employees and contractors accountable for performing work in a safe manner, using safety devices, personal protective clothing and equipment and working in accordance with policies, procedures and legislation designed to protect health, safety and environment.
• Provide direction and leadership to assigned contractors to ensure safe and reliable operation practices and compliance with applicable standards and legislative/regulatory requirements and to maintain a high level of service. This includes:
• Participate in incident/accident investigations.
• Implement corporate initiatives.
• Participate in staff and safety meetings and lead tailgate / pre-job safety meetings.
• Provide leadership in the area of employee safety, health and environment and ensure these principles are valued among staff.
• Provide coaching, training, individual and team recognition, supporting a safe, positive and productive culture.
• Interpret engineering specifications and drawings to develop work plans.
• Review installations against corporate standards for both SEI /TGL.
• Identify and problem solve work plan constraints and issues that may threaten the successful completion of projects, cost and /or impact time schedules, including communicating with affected parties regarding necessary changes and/or modifications.
• Coordinate and oversee contractors ensuring work is done according to corporate standards and policies.
• Verify and validate contractor daily time tickets and installation materials.

Departmental Coordination
• Corporate safety and environmental standards and industry rules and regulations
• Plan, coordinate, and lead the electrical, instrumentation and controls construction and commissioning activities to ensure the construction and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation and controls of corporate facilities, systems and equipment meets project design specifications, Corporate safety and environmental standards and industry rules and regulations. This includes:
• Lead pre-job/tailgate safety meetings and clearly identify and communicate field level chain of command to ensure job site safety.
• Identify and remedy critical system problems.
• Complete timely and accurate required reports, records and as-builts.
• Identify job requirements and arranging for construction resources, permits and approvals, utility connections, outages, materials and special equipment to ensure these items are available to meet the project construction schedule.
• Provide input for project designs.
• Provide cost estimates for electrical and instrumentation projects.
• Provide input on materials used through contracted services to ensure consistency with approved manufacturers lists, corporate standards and/or codes.
• Lead minor electrical and controls projects involving engineering design, construction and commissioning of facilities, including monitoring actual costs versus budget and reporting on final cost and variance.
• Perform electrical and instrumentation trade duties as required.

Technical Support
• Provide technical support to operational staff and contractors to maintain quality control for the electrical, instrumentation and controls construction activities on corporate facilities (such as: high and low voltage electrical power supply and distribution; electronic and pneumatic controls; measurement and gas quality equipment; data transfer and communication equipment; computerized control systems for stations; and gas processing equipment; etc.) to ensure work meets project design specifications, Corporate safety and environmental standards and industry rules and regulations.
• Provide technical support to internal groups such as design engineers and operating groups by applying engineering principles in the investigation, analysis and resolution of technical problems.
• Implement and assist with the evaluation of new technology.
• Maintain an awareness of industry technical developments and assist in finding solutions for the gas industry.

Qualifications

Education
• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Electrician Certificate.
• Provincial or Interprovincial Industrial Instrument Mechanic Certificate.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Experience
• Five (5) years experience in the natural gas industry related to the electrical and instrumentation fields.

Additional Information
• Standby is required on occasion.
• This job is subject to callout situations.
• Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required on occasion.
• This job requires significant travel time.
• This job requires extended work hours.
• This job is safety sensitive, and as such, is subject to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol Policy (Pre-Employment or Pre-Placement for Safety Sensitive Positions).
