About The Position

This position carries primary responsibility for new product development activities and project management.

SCHEDULE: Day shift Monday - Friday

WAGE: $68,000.00 - $77,000.00

Primary Responsibilities
• Carries out product/process development activities to meet stated targets or gold standards, including flavor, texture, quality, cost, and any other parameters defined. May include new development and/or redevelopment/reformulation of products and/or processes.
• Independently manages product development projects. Works well with cross-functional teams, leading new product development activity to take product development from concept through manufacturing implementation.
• Scales-up products from benchtop to the pilot plant with some assistance required for commercial production scale-up. Recommends processing procedures on new and existing products to ensure food safety and fulfilling shelf-life requirements.
• Develops / maintains intimate knowledge of Company processes; must be able to partner closely with Operations, Commercialization, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Procurement, and other departments to bring new products/processes to completion.
• Develops / maintains intimate knowledge of ingredients and their functionality or contribution to product formulations. Can carry this knowledge into innovation activities.
• Regularly makes prototype products for sales calls, sampling to the broader group for approval, and for analytical testing.
• Drafts quality control standards and specifications of finished products and ingredients used with minimal assistance, assuring that specifications are well documented, accurate and reflect best practices.
• Documents work and discoveries via, R&D database (SharePoint) and other systems used by the department to develop and maintain complete project documentation.
• Develops and maintains excellent relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers – both internal and external.
• Works as a team to maintain the laboratory organization and cleanliness, including maintaining stock of ingredients and equipment needed to perform daily tasks.
• Follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
• Always exhibits a professional attitude; demonstrates a cooperative demeanor and willingness to help others.
• Maintain accountability to Oberto Brands Food Safety and Quality Principles.
• Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.
• Investigates new technologies, ingredients, equipment, and processes to the benefit of the Company.
• Stays abreast of emerging trends in the food industry, including the restaurant trade.
• Brings new ideas and concepts to the organization to further its innovation activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Back Up: The Food Technologist is the back up to the Associate Food Technologist.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in food science/technology, Meat Science or related field required.
• 1-3 years of experience in food product development/formulation preferred.
• Experience and or advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) will be considered in lieu of experience.
• Interest in food and ability to cook are required. Experience and/or education in cooking or culinary skills are a plus.
• Must have working knowledge of Food Safety and Regulatory business standards, practices, policies, procedures and state and federal laws and regulations including but not limited to HACCP, GMP’s, SSOP’s, Food Labeling, Import/Export Regulations, GFSI Certification Programs (SQF & BRC).
• Microsoft Office computer software applications at a medium to expert user level
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data and develop action plans based on results.
• Detail oriented and follow-through.
• Strong leadership skills, team player, results oriented.
• Well organized: able to set priorities/goals and maintain focus and follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to plan and manage projects to effectively complete and execute new programs as required.

• Can develop original, imaginative ideas into practical, manufacturing prototypes.
• Detail-oriented and disciplined; ability to clearly document activities and discoveries such that the information is of value to the organization.
