We are looking for an experienced safety professional to join the Central Safety team and help deliver on our mandate and support employees and contractors at our sites to work safely. Our team is guided by our core value of Safety Above All Else and provides safety support to sites such as safety program management (e.g. serious injury and fatality program, human and organizational performance, life-saving rules, incident management, etc.), major incident investigation, contractor safety management, emergency management and business continuity, benchmarking, analysis and stewardship.

In this role, you will support the implementation and sustainment of Suncor’s new Health ... Safety Management Standard and best practices. You will lead and manage initiatives and support sites to simplify and standardize work processes to deliver results.

Minimum Requirements:
• Occupational Safety Certificate/Diploma or Degree, or internal candidate with proven EH&S competency and supporting experiences.
• 10 years industry experience in a related safety role
• Possess strong understanding of safety regulatory requirements.
• Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• An effective listener who can facilitate collaborative conversations across our sites to share best practices and leverage learnings to simplify and standardize how we do work
• Continuous improvement mindset
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Can effectively interacts with mid-level leaders within regulatory organizations

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide sites with guidance to ensure effective execution of Suncor's Manage Safety Best Practice
• Support site safety process owners and leads to drive replication of best practices and facilitate consistent interpretation and improvement of the Manage Health and Safety processes
• Sustain current enterprise Safety governing documents, with a focus on decluttering and simplification
• Lead safety-related initiatives and projects with short term timelines (1 year)
• Draft and review safety communications and materials.
• Lead the writing and reviewing of technical procedures and standards within area of expertise
• Own and maintain enterprise tools and technology that enable Suncor's Manage Safety Best Practice
• Provide specialty technical input for hazard assessments, incident investigations, self-assessments and audits.
• Build and sustain relationship with external industry peers to stay current on best practices
• Liaise with regulators at a provincial or national level

Location and other key details:
• You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. or our Fort McMurray office located at 9816 Hardin Street. This is an office-based role. Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
