Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Teaching & Research Librarian -- Business, Social Sciences & Government Information. This is a full-time, on-site, tenure track position with a desired start date of July 1, 2024, subject to budgetary approval.


As a member of the Public Services team, the incumbent will:
• provide reference and research assistance;
• prepare and lead information literacy sessions;
• develop and manage the collections for Business Studies (Commerce), Economics, Government Information, and other areas in the Social Sciences;
• develop reference and teaching materials for the Libraries’ website.

As a member of Library Council, the Teaching & Research Librarian -- Business, Social Sciences & Government Information will contribute to the R.P. Bell Library renovation planning. The successful candidate may also be assigned responsibilities in other areas befitting... the Libraries’ priorities and dependent on the successful candidate’s strengths and expertise. Shift duties for reference service may include evenings and weekends.

Qualifications And Requirements

An MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school is a requirement for this position.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities and recent experience in the following areas, preferably in an academic library:
• reference services;
• information literacy teaching;
• collection development;
• government information services;

As Well As Possessing
• excellent oral and written communication skills;
• a strong public-service-centred philosophy;
• and a keen interest in providing library and information services in a collegial environment.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a background or experience in Business Studies, government information or related areas. A graduate degree in Business Studies or other area in the Social Sciences will be considered an asset.

This position is represented by the Mount Allison Faculty Association and participation and involvement in scholarship, teaching and service is expected. The appointment will be made at a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary will be within the established range and commensurate with qualifications and experience. In 2023-2024, the annual salary minimum for the rank of Assistant Librarian is $80,937.
