Duties

This position is responsible for the supervision, coordination and delivery of healthcare and clinical services to offenders in an institutional setting within the... Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). They also contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans and operational policies and procedures. They supervise a team of nursing staff, service providers and support staff, providing input into human resource requirements within budgetary allocations, including overseeing contracts for professional services.

Work environment

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering court imposed sentences of a term of two years or more. CSC manages various security level institutions and supervises offenders under conditional release in the community. CSC's mandate is to contribute to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and human control.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse in a province or territory of Canada*, with no conditions or restrictions.
• In order to receive an employment offer, you must be registered in the province or territory where the position is located.

EXPERIENCE:
• Recent and significant* experience in one or more of the following areas: psychiatric, medical-surgical, emergency or other related fields.
• Recent and significant experience is normally gained over 3 consecutive years within the last 5 years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
• Relevant additional certifications.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience managing human resources.
• Experience managing financial resources.
• Experience in program management such as needs assessment, planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluation.
• Experience in coordinating Health and/or Training Programs.
• Experience in dealing with Indigenous communities.
• Experience in dealing with community-based health organizations, such as public health or mental health.
• Experience in planning, developing, coordinating and supporting the implementation of comprehensive formal discharge/post release plans for individuals with complex medical problems.
• Experience working in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Experience working in a correctional environment.

ABILITIES:
• Ability to manage human resources.

• Ability to develop partnerships.

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of nursing management strategies in the delivery of health services.
• Knowledge of professional Standards of Practice from the college of Nurses for the respective Province of Work.
• Knowledge of the issues and trends affecting the management and delivery of health programs.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and Correctional Service Canada policies (e.g. Commissioner’s Directives).

Conditions of employment

Reliability and Security: Reliability Status Security Clearance.
• Medical Clearance through Health Canada or alternatives designated by Health Canada.
• Valid CPR/AED level Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Valid CPR/AED for Health Care Providers (HCP) is also acceptable. Certification must be obtained in person.
