Chief Architect

Permanent

Location: Edinburgh, Witham or Peterborough (typically 2 days in the office per week, 3 from home)

Salary: A competitive salary from £147,040 – £180,000 depending on the experience you can bring

Closing date: 20th May 2024

We are currently looking for a Chief Architect to join our team on a permanent basis in Edinburgh. Our Chief Architect is responsible for Aegon UK’s business strategy alignment... ensuring that there is a clear aligned Technology strategy & roadmap.

Key Requirements
• Responsible for all elements of AUK’s architecture and key making decisions that impact the wider technology function.
• Work closely with Aegon’s global operations, aligning our AUK strategy to groups and contributing to our global community.
• Develop our overall reference architectures, as well as strategic cloud platform technologies and services.
• Communicating architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies, highlighting short-term trade-offs vs long-term commitments
• Own the software engineering processes and drive automation across all product and project development teams
• Introduce agility into our technology delivery culture and migrate the organisation to a DevSecOps culture driving automation of our IT processes.
• Develop and maintain an aspirational architectural roadmap for the enterprise
• Owning the software engineering processes and drive automation across all products and project development teams.
• Leading Aegon UK’s business strategy alignment within technology, ensuring this aligns to our Global initiatives across the Aegon Group.
• Ensuring our developers across technology are productive and efficient for the organisation ensuring ownership of all engineering processes.
• Providing thought leadership for our technology and wider business teams, creating an open and collaborative working culture in AUK.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:
• Extensive experience across product delivery & architecture, alongside a strong background within cloud architecture
• Highly experienced technology leader with a very strong understanding of technology, architecture, systems design and Enterprise Development.
• In depth understanding of industry standards and IT legislation, matched by knowledge of design principles and software development methods, techniques, standards and styles.
• Proven track record of delivering large and complex key projects through highly effective programme management.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop influential relationships at all levels
• Experience in designing and implementing enterprise scale systems
• Strong background in designing and implementing cloud data platforms that rely on large scale and distributed datasets
• Proven track record in the delivery of traditional code artefacts (Java, Python, SQL) in addition to IaC artefacts (Cloud Formation, Terraform, AWS CLI)
• Designing and estimating transformation architectures
• Ability to work in an environment of competing and alternating priorities with constant focus on delivery and scale
• Proven ability to represent the product architecture to external entities and a curious mindset, with a drive for continuous improvement
