We are seeking a talented mid-level commercial/chancery barrister to join a growing BVI disputes practice as a Senior Associate. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to work on complex, high-profile cases and build a long-term career in the Caribbean.

About the Role

As a Senior Associate, you will support partners in delivering technically robust legal advice directly to clients, with appropriate supervision. Your diverse workload will include:
• Director and shareholder disputes
• Trust and estates litigation
• Insolvency, fraud, and asset tracing
• General corporate and commercial disputes

Ideal Candidate

To succeed in this role, you will have:
• An outstanding academic pedigree
• 4-8 years of post-qualification experience at a top-tier commercial/chancery chambers or notable offshore/onshore law firm
• Robust advocacy skills and a commitment to maintaining a robust advocacy component in your practice
• A self-starter mentality and enthusiasm for building a long-term... career in the Caribbean

Why the BVI
• The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean.
• Possessing a sub-tropical climate, the BVI is well known as a superb location for sailing and waters sports enthusiasts with fantastic beaches and other outdoor attractions. Possessing a small but friendly ex-pat community there is a full range of sports facilities and clubs available that will appeal to both families and singles.
• The BVI is recognized as a leading offshore hub, with approximately 500,000 foreign businesses incorporated in the BVI and around 40% of all offshore companies in the world BVI registered.
• The territory maintains innovative and modern statutes dealing primarily with company, banking, trust, insolvency and insurance laws, with a large number of firms in the region heavily involved in insolvency proceedings, complex commercial litigation and arbitration, M&A deals.
• The BVI has most recently established itself as an attractive jurisdiction for blockchain businesses and virtual asset projects including token issues and initial coin offerings, payment and crypto lending services, computer gaming, in-game NFTs, and play-to-earn projects.
• Lawyers looking to relocate to the BVI must be England & Wales / Northern Ireland and can be admitted to the BVI Bar from NQ upwards.
• Salaries are competitive if slightly below those in other offshore jurisdictions (such as Cayman & Bermuda) while the cost of living is lower in comparison (by c20%). Packages include basic salaries and bonus / commission (at a prevailing tax rate of 8%) plus relocation, temporary accommodation and other benefits.
