About the position

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant plays an integral role in the financial reporting analysis and close procedures for assigned business units. Including but not limited to establishing, and maintaining processes and protocols to ensure appropriate financial controls are in place and operational efficiencies are realized in support of the delivery of accurate and timely financial information to management.

In addition, the ideal candidate is previous hands-on experience executing without detailed task direction.

This is a full-time, onsite position with regular business hours, located at 8301 Eastlake Drive, Burnaby, BC.

How you’ll contribute:

The Accountant will be primarily assigned to General Accounting activities as described below but may be asked to participate in all areas of accounting.
• Perform month end close procedures for all assigned business areas, includes all accruals and reconciliations with exposure to monthly variance analysis to operations and management.
• Understand and establish timely reconciliation procedures to ensure harmonization between divisions, and between accounting program sub ledgers and their control accounts.
• Calculate and remit sales tax filing following established frequencies.
• Actively work with the Director - Finance to address any issues with reporting and improvements to the reporting process.
• Support the accounting team to ensure delivery of timely and accurate financial information.
• Provide analysis to drive improved decision making, as required.
• Assist with ad-hoc requests and analysis and accounting projects as required.
• Support the continuous process improvement initiatives to increase operating efficiency and data accuracy.

What you’ll need to succeed
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Finance and Accounting.
• Post-secondary education in a related field.
• Working towards Canadian accounting designation considered an asset.
• Superb oral and written communication skills and collaborating with staff and clients in a professional manner.
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Proven ability to problem-solve, meet deadlines, and handle changing priorities.
• Exercise discretion, tact, and judgement in handling confidential and sensitive information.
• Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Knowledge of Inventory Management System considered an asset.
• Knowledge of Acumatica Accounting System considered an asset.
