Junior Research Scientist/Operation Technologist for Wastewater Treatment and Energy Storage Operations

The Company:

BioLargo Water is a research and development company focused on developing its innovative water/wastewater treatment technology, the Advanced Oxidation System (AOS). The AOS has demonstrated disinfection and decontamination capabilities and is nearing commercialization.

The position:

We currently have an opening for Junior Research Scientist/Operation Technologist for water/wastewater treatment and energy storage development operations. The opening is in collaboration with the Eco Canada Science Horizons Youth Internship Program (SHI) for one year with possibility for extension. The primary function of the Junior Research Scientist/Operation Technologist is day to day operations of in-house experiments with a focus on water/wastewater treatment and energy storage technology optimization. You will be exposed to a multi-disciplinary team and involved in design... consideration, as well as operating parameter selection in different water/wastewater qualities and contaminants. Some of the duties include reactor operation, chemical and microbial analyses of collected samples and troubleshooting of encountered problems.

The position will primarily be located on the University of Alberta’s South Campus at Agri- Food Discovery Place but may require frequent visits a potential pilot site in Calgary. The position requires a willingness to work in the field and the potential for long hours.

Qualifications or Required Skills
• Graduate of engineering technologist program or bachelor’s degree in mechanical chemical and materials engineering.
• Co-op experience and/or laboratory experience is an asset.
• Experience with wastewater treatment technologies is an asset.
• Experience with energy storage technologies is an asset.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as with others on a team.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Problem solving skills with good decision making and judgment.
• Experience with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is essential.
• Experience with CAD software (AutoCad, Solidworks).
• Class 5 drivers license.
• Candidates must meet the criteria for the Eco Canada Science Horizons Youth Internship Program

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $3,000.00-$4,000.00 per month
