Job Summary

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Applied Econometric (Education and Research) within the School of Economics at the University of Kent. In particular we are seeking candidates with a strong track record of both research and teaching in higher education, who can complement the research of the School’s applied economists, and can contribute toward the mission of either the Magic or Microeconomics research groups, or both, within the School. You will have published your research in the top organs of the discipline and will have a strong research portfolio. Those whose research has application in shaping government policy are particularly sought.

In addition, candidates who hold effective experience of, or ability to, design and deliver teaching in Applied Econometric at an intermediate and higher level especially are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be required to deliver teaching of intermediate level applied econometric to both... undergraduate BSc students in a traditional manner and to apprentices using distance techniques. You will also assist in the development and promotion of Economics at Kent, both nationally and internationally, complement the School’s existing research strengths, and foster links and collaboration with appropriate internal and external contacts and organisations.

You will be mentored to help them develop their own academic careers. There may be opportunities to contribute toward postgraduate research supervision and in possibly the teaching and development of our other taught programs in Economics. The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Economics focusing on the application and/or development of econometric and must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and promotion of the wider discipline of economics.
Key Accountabilities / Primary Responsibilities

As Lecturer in Applied Econometric you will:
• To deliver and contribute to the design and teaching of high-quality, student centred programmes in economics
• To contribute fully to the School and University by participating in meetings, working groups, committees and other School and University activities
• To contribute, under certain circumstances, to the supervision team for research students
• Conduct, and publish, world leading research and impactful in Economics or econometrics
• Support the wider research culture of the School and Faculty
• Secure external funding to resource your research agenda

Key Duties
• Engage on a continuous and meaningful basis with colleagues in the School and contribute to a cohesive and collegial work environment
• To engage in individual and collaborative research and scholarship activities
• Promote the development of enhanced teaching and student outcomes within the School

Such other duties, commensurate with the grading of the post that may be assigned by the Head of Department or their nominee. These areas might include, but not be limited to, offering leadership in Education, Research, Student Experience or Employability at the School level.

Person Specification

The Person Specification details the necessary skills, qualifications, experience or other attributes needed to carry out the job. Please be aware that your application will be measured against the criteria published below. Selection panels will be looking for clear evidence and examples in your application, or in your cover letter where applicable, which back-up any assertions you make in relation to each criterion.
• Strong first degree in Economics or sub-discipline (or equivalent)
• PhD in Economics with specialization in Econometric theory and application (or equivalent)
• PGCHE or equivalent teaching qualification
• Up-to-date knowledge of econometrics theory & application evidenced by publication record appropriate to the grade applied for
• Experience of delivering excellence in teaching and assessment of economics/econometrics in Higher Education
• Experience in delivering technology enabled learning and teaching
• Understanding of the research funding arena
• Evidence of administrative experience (commensurate with career stage)
• Excellent interpersonal, presentational and communication skills
• Evidence of world leading and impactful research, evidenced by successful publication and a convincing future research agenda
• An ability and willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities and leadership within the School
• A personal commitment to developing excellence in both teaching and research
• Willingness to contribute to the development of programmes, modules and other teaching related activities
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues within and beyond the School
• Willingness to engage in continuous professional development
