Job Title: Assistant Commissioner, Forestry

Organisation: Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

About US:

The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) was established in 2007, from the then Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment, following the cabinet decision taken on 15th April, 2007. It has the overall responsibility of the development, managing, and regulating water and Environment resources in Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner, Forestry Sector Support Services for performing the following duties:-
• Supporting formulation, review and oversight of national policies, legislations, strategies and plans for effective management of forestry resources;
• Supporting setting of guidelines and national standards on forestry management;
• Supporting coordination and supervision of technical support and training of Local Government Officials;
• Overseeing National Forest Authority’s... performance in forestry sector development;
• Supporting inspection, monitoring and evaluation of Local Government forestry services for effective implementation of national policies, plans and strategies on forestry development;
• Supporting coordination, inspection, monitoring and evaluating the performance of the various actors in forestry management, including Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA);
• Coordinating and supervising implementation of the National Forest Plan (NFP) and cross-sectoral linkages (projects, programmes and plans);
• Supporting promotion of public information and advocacy for the forestry sector;
• Liaising and participating in Regional and International programmes on forestry development;
• Any other duties that may assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields: Natural Science; or Forestry; or Environment, or Environmental Science; or Agriculture; or Botany/zoology from a recognized University/Institution and a Masters Degree in any of the above fields from a recognized University/Institution. A post graduate qualification in Management and or Administration will be an added advantage
• Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Forestry Officer in Government
