About the Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Durability & Materials team as Senior/Principal Engineer (Corrosion and Materials) working on some of the most important infrastructure projects in Europe.

You’ll be responsible for supporting our project teams and external clients across a wide range of sectors, including energy, defence, maritime, transportation, utilities and the built environment. You will provide assessment of existing assets and help in the design of new assets and planning for future durability. Our Subject Matter Experts are recognised across Jacobs for their knowledge in construction materials and corrosion control.

Working closely with colleagues in the Durability & Materials team, you’ll deliver services and grow the Strategic Consulting business, including preparing proposals and delivering presentations. This role can be based at any of our Jacobs UK offices where we operate a hybrid model of home and office working. We are a small dynamic team, and you will need to be flexible about working across the UK or overseas on short assignments.

Here’s what you’ll need:

You’ll be degree qualified in Materials/Corrosion science with direct experience in consultancy work and project delivery in the construction industry. Using your knowledge and experience of paints/coatings and steel, you’ll predominantly provide technical input into relevant inspections, failure analysis and repair options to provide practical solutions. You will also be involved with the broader corrosion mitigation strategies and material specification/ selection of projects. It is noted that this position is not focused on Cathodic Protection (CP) but additional qualifications and skills in that area will be beneficial. You’ll have to possess and demonstrate:

• Knowledge of coating and painting offshore and onshore facilities and structures, predominantly as part of the UK framework
• Experience in preparing materials, paints and coatings specifications for new design and refurbishment projects
• Understanding in materials selection and corrosion mechanisms affecting major infrastructure including highways, bridges, ports, major flood barriers and tunnels
• Awareness of welding and associated corrosion/ materials issues
• CAD experience
