jobs description

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world's largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco’s value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations’ spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom’s vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as... well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.

Aramco is seeking a senior sustainability scientist/engineer to join the Sustainable Fuels & Chemicals team of the Research & Development Center (R&DC) at Saudi Aramco. The Sustainable Fuels & Chemicals team is responsible for developing and improving unconventional and cost-effective technologies related to the conversion of renewable and recyclable feedstocks into sustainable fuels and chemicals.

The senior sustainability engineer’s/scientist’s primary role is to lead and contribute to the sustainability research, development, and commercialization of sustainable and recyclable fuels and chemicals by retrofitting existing units or developing new processes to produce sustainable products, including e-fuels, e-methanol, green hydrogen, e-naphtha, recycled plastics and others.

This position offers a unique opportunity to support Saudi Aramco energy transition to meet its sustainability targets, by leading technology development from its R&D stage to the commercialization stage.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and initiate R&D projects related to the conversion of renewable feedstocks into sustainable and circular fuels and chemicals.

Lead necessary development stages of the chemical processes including bench-scale testing, pilot testing, demo plant trials, and others.

Lead efforts related to the development to produce e-fuels from CO2 and H2 by debottlenecking and revamping existing processes.

Lead the research and techno-commercialization tasks related to the production of e-fuels and circular chemicals through the integration of renewable and circular feedstocks into existing refinery and petrochemical processes.

Lead detailed plan in process engineering design and process and unit retrofitting.

Carry out process simulations and optimizations for the overall process and individual process steps.

Create material and energy balances and process flow diagrams, and develop process design data for the individual components of the systems.

Contribute to process development projects related to converting renewable and recyclable feedstocks including converting plastic wastes and biomass into valuable products.

Expand capabilities through innovative internal and external research related to waste pyrolysis, renewable fuels, biofuels, waste gasification, and green hydrogen production.

Utilize project management tools in setting work objectives, detailing the experimental scope, and timely execution of the projects towards sound technical solutions.

Mentor engineering and technical staff in applying fundamental chemical principles.

Liaise with relevant internal organizations/committees to ensure in-house technology options are deployed as per schedule.

Effectively manage and collaborate with external entities and contractors for the execution of R&D projects.

Serve, as needed, as Aramco’s technical spokesperson on issues related to sustainability in fuels and chemicals.

Provide technical expertise and assist in the decision-making for company projects related to sustainability.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related fields; a PhD is preferred.

Ten years of relevant experience, including technology development and process design/engineering associated with sustainable and circular fuels and chemicals.

Wide experience in renewable energy utilization and production, plant and process engineering design, process retrofitting, basic and detailed engineering, and process simulation and modeling.

Wide theoretical and practical knowledge of emerging renewable energy technologies, including e-fuels, CO2 hydrogenation, biomass conversion, and catalyst scale-up and testing for sustainable fuel production.

Effective communication skills and a willingness to seek out cross-functional technical expertise as required, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Able to conduct detailed techno-economic assessment of R&D projects

The ability to provide written technical reports or presentations of technical work to a variety of audiences.
