Baseline Assessment for Community Health and Well-being in Host Mining Communities in Karas Region (Rosh Pinah, Aus, Luderitz, Oranjemund), Namibia

Scope of work for Survey Coordinator and Qualitative analyst

Right to Care Health Services has been contracted to conduct a baseline survey to identify health priorities for health and well-being. This is part of a long term plan by the Anglo-American Group published Sustainable Mining Plan with Global sustainability pillars: Trusted Corporate Leader, Thriving Communities, and Health Environment. The plan aspires to “ensure residents in host communities meet the SDG3 health outcome targets, with a particular focus on girls and young women and persons with disabilities”. De Beers developed a Building Forever Sustainability Framework, launched in 2030 with 12 goals to achieve by 2030 across four pillar. Right to Care is seeking a Survey Coordinator and qualitative data analyst to be part of the... team.

The purpose of the baseline study is to identify local needs and priorities relating to SDG3 in host communities of Oranjemund, Luderitz, other labour sending communities in Karas region ( Rosh Pina and Aus) in Namibia. Once the baseline has established and has taken cognisance of the national, regional and local levels, it will enable the Namibia De Beers Group of Companies (Debmarine Namibia, Namdeb, Namibia Diamond Trading Company, Debmarine-Namdeb-Foundation) to develop strategies to achieve the health SDG3 health targets as per the scoped communities. This is turn will guide the development of a 5-year Community Health and Safety Plan.

Objectives

The study will:

1. Review sociodemographic, health, and social data at the national, regional, district and local authority level.

2. Get a deeper understanding of the health and wellbeing SDG3 baseline, gaps and priorities within the local context of each host/doorstep communities identified.

3. Identify health intervention and other activities already being undertaken in each community of Oranjemund, Lüderitz, Aus and Rosh Pinah in Karas region, Namibia.

4. Identify potential partnerships to address the gaps in identified communities for potential interventions and mark points of reference against which intervention-driven progress towards Namibian HaW goals can be monitored.

Survey Location: Rosh Pinah, Aus, Luderitz, Oranjemund)

Responsibilities:

· Advise on baseline design and planning, with focus on sampling.

· Provide guidance on quantitative methodology, high-level technical review of major deliverables, and support the team to resolve any technical difficulty during this baseline.

· Provide targeted technical support as needed to the Principal Investigator and the team on the development of quantitative methodology, sampling, and the design of digital survey questionnaires.

Required Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in Social Science preferred, with at least 10 years of experience

2. Extensive experience in qualitative data analysis

3. Experience with program evaluation

4. Experience designing and conducting health evaluations with significative qualitative components

5. 3+ more years’ experience using qualitative software packages
