Main Purpose

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighter at the 423 Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force Alconbury, United Kingdom.

The primary purpose of this position isto serve as a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in structural firefighting, rescue, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Technician, to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles, and to respond to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping... or controlling the release.

Will perform the following:

· Hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis.

· Structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities.

· Rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures.

Will maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.

Also, will comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

Knowledge and Experience Required
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
• Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; and of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.

2. Knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy.

3. Knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions.

4. Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; and safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders.

5. Skill in operating communications equipment.

6. Ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing; and to lift and carry heavy loads; and to conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; and to apply emergency first aid techniques.

Other Important Information
• Hours of work: Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
• Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
• Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
• May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
• May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
• A 12-month probationary period will be required.
• Overtime may be required.
• May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary train.

Other significant facts pertaining to this position are:
• 1. Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

2. Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

3. This position is considered operational; therefore, the incumbent is entitled to receive an Operational Firefighter Pay Supplement for working an approved USAFE ‘as rostered’ shift pattern. The shift pattern will comprise of 24-hour.

4. shifts generally 48-hour work weeks, which may include weekends and public holidays. Management will assign work schedule based on needs of organization. Incumbent will be subject to recall.

5. This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing (in accordance with HQ-USAF letter dated 29 Jan 90).

6. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

7. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid CAT C driving license is required.

8. May be required to substitute for Crew Chief for one shift absences (cannot be for consecutive shifts), if certified at this level.

9. There is a mandatory retirement age of 60 years for firefighters hired under the Local National Direct Hire Program.

10.May be required to work the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC).

11.Employee is required to be certified by the Department of Defense (DOD) Firefighter Certification System as:

· Firefighter II (includes Firefighter I),
• HAZMAT Awareness,
• HAZMAT Operations,
• HAZMAT Technician,
• Apparatus Driver Operator - Pumper,
• Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial*,
• Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS)*.
• NOTE- Required if Aerial and/or MWS is assigned.

12. The incumbent of this position is designated as a mission essential employee for reduced operations during inclement weather. Employees assigned to this position report for work as scheduled.
