$107,250- $137,436 (based on experience) + 18% Superannuation

The Queensland Police Union (QPU), with a 108 year history, represents more than 12,500+ police officers and police staff members across Queensland. The QPU provides the highest possible standard of representation for the benefit and protection of police and police staff members in Industrial Relations, Legal and Workplace, Health and Safety Matters.

With the massive growth and projected growth pipeline in police numbers currently occurring in Queensland (there are currently more police in training at the Police Academy than ever before) the QPU is expanding its expert team to keep pace with demand and continue to offer its market leading services.

Your new role

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about health, safety and wellbeing. This role will be based in Brisbane and you will be a part of the QPU Industrial division. This is a varied, busy and challenging role, with an emphasis on a team environment.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Provide advice regarding Health Safety and Wellbeing matters.
• Participating in WHS inspection audits and risk assessments, escalating any safety issues to management for review and rectification.
• Researching, producing reports and briefing notes related to workplace health and safety issues.
• Representing police officers and police staff members’ health safety and wellbeing interests and participating in Queensland Police Service committees.
• Working as a part of the QPU Industrial team supporting the management of workers’ compensation, injury management, and return-to-work and rehabilitation policy and processes, where required.

Essential Criteria:
• In-depth knowledge of current Queensland WHS legislation and Codes of Practice in the Queensland Public Sector.
• Prior experience a Workplace, Health and Safety Officer or similar. (Public sector experience highly regarded)
• Tertiary qualification in Work, Health and Safety, industrial relations, human resource management, business management or law, or another complementary area.
• Knowledge of the Queensland Industrial Relations system, Awards and Certified Agreements with an interest in advancing the professional and industrial Work, Health and Safety rights of Queensland Police and police staff member roles;
• Ability to work effectively with a broad range of individuals at multiple levels
• Experience in reviewing enterprise agreements and interpreting and applying clauses;
• Experience as a representative at consultative forums.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and achieve agreed timelines
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communications and presentation skills
• Good computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
• Experience as a representative at consultative forums
• Driver’s license
• Ability to pass a comprehensive police check
