MECHANICAL ENGINEER,DERRYOur client based in the Derry area are in a period of significant growth and due to their continued increased and busy work load they now have a vacancy for an Engineer.Responsible for managing maintenance activities and leading engineering projects toensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our facilities and equipment. This roleinvolves a combination of maintenance work, project planning, and coordination withinternal teams and external vendors. The successful candidate will play a critical rolein optimising maintenance processes, implementing improvement projects, andcontributing to the overall success of our organisation. (a full JD can be made available to shortlisted applicants)Summary of main Duties:Maintenance, Engineering & Facilities Management• Plan and execute preventive maintenance programs, using Asset Management software, to minimise equipment downtime and maximise operational efficiency.• Conduct routine inspections, diagnose equipment... issues, and perform repairs or coordinate with maintenance technicians to resolve issues promptly.• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment history, and spare parts inventory.• Ensure all cargo handling equipment, plant and machinery certifications are up to date.• Carry out engineering activities on site to include bespoke engineering solutions.• Produce maintenance reports and recommendations.• Act as Site Responsible person for any Contractors you manage including tendering, inductions and any other relevant protocols• Implement sustainable practices and energy-saving initiatives to optimise facility performance and reduce environmental impact.• As a primary key holder fulfil the role of first responder in the event of incident or emergency outside of normal working hours.Project Planning and Execution• Lead allocated engineering projects from conception to completion, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify project requirements, establish goals, and develop project plans and timelines.• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to procure materials and services necessary for project implementation in accordance with the organisation’s procurement policy.Continuous Improvement• Identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction, and performance improvement in maintenance, engineering and facilities operations.• Implement best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technological solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.• Analyse maintenance data, metrics and KPIs to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.Facilities & Energy Management• Oversee the day-to-day facility operations, including balance of plant, building maintenance, services and environmental health and safety compliance.• Coordinate preventive maintenance activities, including inspections, servicing, and repairs, to minimize downtime and equipment failures.Technical Support• Provide technical expertise and support to maintenance technicians, operators, and other staff members.• Conduct toolbox talks, training sessions and workshops to ensure proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems.• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in maintenance, facilities and engineering.Health, Safety and Compliance• Ensure compliance with current health, safety, and environmental regulations/reporting and standards in all engineering, maintenance and project activities.• Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and hazard analyses to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safe working environment.• Promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to safety protocols among team members and contractors.Essential Criteria:Relevant degree level qualification, i.e., BEng (Mechanical Engineering) at 2.2 or above, or equivalent.Minimum two years’ experience in a similar environment.IT literate including proficiency in MS Office applications such as MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word and other IT systems such as Computerised MaintenanceManagement Systems and online training platforms.Experience of successfully leading projects.Ability to prioritise workloads in a systematic and organised manner to ensure that jobs are completed within target times.Full current driving licence or access to a form of transport to enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post in full.Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, codes of practice and guidelines.Right to work in the UK without the requirement for a sponsorship licence.Desirable Criteria:Have obtained a project management qualification, such as Prince 2.Membership or professional accreditation in engineering or relevant discipline.A range of Employee Well Being Initiatives including:33 days paid holiday including bank and public increasing to 38 with service.Generous contributory pension scheme.Enhanced family friendly benefits.Death in service benefit.On-site free car parking.Employee Well Being Initiatives including:Employee Assistance ProgrammeBenefits Platform - access to retail discounts.Cycle to Work Scheme.Subsidised Gym MembershipAnnual Flu Clinic.Health Surveillance.Mental Health & Well-being Champions.Permanent Role;Monday to Friday 8am-4pm;Salary Neg.
