Employment/Outreach Counsellor, YWCA JUMP Etobicoke (JOB ID: JUMP967)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Work Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday from 8:30-4:30p.m)

Salary: $49,329 per annum (L5) plus comprehensive benefits

The Employment/Outreach Counsellor for JUMP Etobicoke Settlement Program – Labour Market Access is responsible for marketing and co-ordinating the overall outreach for the program and shares responsibility for intake and offering vocational, pre-employment and employment workshops as well as the group sessions.

ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – YWCA JUMP ETOBICOKE

YWCA JUMP Etobicoke is a settlement program for newcomer women, female youth and gender diverse people in North and Central Etobicoke. The program has a strong employment emphasis paired with services addressing the adaptation, settlement and integration needs of newcomer women, female youth and gender diverse people. A comprehensive portfolio of services include: needs assessment, information and orientation, pre-employment, job search and skills training programs, wellness and mental health supports, community connections and professional networking opportunities; satellite workshops are offered in the North/West end of the GTA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Interviews, conducts preliminary assessments and identifies clients’ needs and goals in the area of employment, education and training;
• Provides one on one counseling;
• Co-ordinates, plans, implements and evaluates program and outreach activities for JUMP Etobicoke in consultation with the Manager and the YWCA Advocacy and Communications Department in order to promote the program to prospective participants and community agencies;
• Develops and produces outreach presentation material(s) in written and electronic formats in consultation with the Manager;
• Works with the team to provide on-going support to participants through advocacy and liaising with community agencies;
• Works with the team to develop and maintain brochures, flyers and other promotional materials;

QUALIFICATIONS:
• In-depth knowledge of an academic or technical discipline normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology or Adult Education or equivalent. Work involves application of theoretical knowledge to job-related problems. (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
• 3-5 years directly related work experience;
• Group Facilitation and Life Skills Training necessary;
• Knowledge of a second language an asset (e.g. Somali, Tamil, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Mandarin);
• Ability to interpret and administer Level B Testing;
• Counselling approach that is flexible, de-escalates tension, teaches conflict resolution and is focused on success;
• Ability to work within an anti-oppression and feminist framework;
• Ability to deliver culturally sensitive services in a multicultural environment;
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure;
• Ability to handle crisis situations effectively both in person and by telephone;
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, e-mail and the Internet;
• Operates in an environment that has minimal supervision, requires high levels of flexibility, adaptability and problem-solving skills and where considerable judgment and critical analysis needs to be exercised on a regular basis;
• Ability to maintain a positive approach and a professional manner at all times.
