The Salem Public Library is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and community-focused individual whose main objective is to deliver exceptional internal and external customer service as an Adult Librarian on the Adult Services team.

The Adult Librarian will have experience creating and carefully maintaining meaningful connections with patrons, coworkers, and library partners.
This position will be able to demonstrate collection development skills that are proactive, responsive, and inclusive.
The Adult Librarian will plan, conduct, and evaluate adult programs in collaboration with coworkers and ensuring that the programs are aligned with the library mission of engaging all of Salem in lifelong learning, accessing information, and making meaningful connections.
A marker of success in this role will be the ability to support and further our objectives outlined in the library's 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities:
Interacting daily with members of the public to deliver library services and provide information in person at a variety of service desks, and via phone and email.
Maintaining a section of the adult nonfiction collection, including selection, evaluation, and deselection of materials.
Designing, planning, and implementing programs for adults, particularly seeking to reach community members not currently attending library programs.
Representing the library at community events to spread awareness of the library's resources, services, and programs.
Aiding with the codification and accessibility of staff resources at library service points and online.
Instructing patrons in use of various library systems and resources, such as the internet, Dewey Decimal system, indexes, databases, printers, software programs, network programs, etc.
by providing guidance, directions, and technical expertise.
Answering basic questions about Library policies, facilities, and resources and explaining Library rules and procedures by phone and in person.
Assisting and participating in the recruitment, training, and development of library support staff members.
Serving on internal committees and groups.
Maintaining proficiency by attending trainings, webinars and workshops as required.
Preparing reports and maintaining records related to library activities.
May supervise volunteers.
May serve as the person in charge.
May on occasion work at the West Salem Library located at 476 Glen Creek Rd.
NW, Salem, OR 97304.
Assistance with building safety and security by reporting concerns and being aware of surroundings.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Position schedule is Tuesday - Saturday (working one evening per week).
What are the minimum qualifications? Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science, and some progressively responsible library or similar related customer service work, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (Not required to apply):
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing).
