JOB TITLE: Music Teacher (9 month - 187 days)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal...

JOB GOAL: To teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music to elementary students.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's or higher from accredited college or university preferred.
• Valid Alabama teacher certificate in General Music, Instrumental Music, or Choral Music.
• Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Possess an in-depth knowledge of music techniques and skills.
• Possess the ability to instruct students in music.
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
• Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
• Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
• Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
• Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.

Duties And Responsibilities
• Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
• Facilitate the personal, social, and musical development of students.
• Teaches general music including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
• Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
• Enables students to develop an appreciation of the art of music.
• Demonstrates techniques to students in music concepts.
• Provides opportunities for music ensembles.
• Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community.
• Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
• Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
• Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
• Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with parents, members of the school district and community.
• Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
• Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
• Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
• Maintain current curriculum and instructional practices.
• Conduct and supervise school musical programs.
• Assist with the activities of student organizations.
• See that district policies are observed during all activities.
• Obtain advance approval of the Principal for all activities and expenditures.
• Fosters student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others by role modeling and learning activities.
• Participates in state-approved evaluation program as required.
• Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and/or after school.
• Supervises and/or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
• Serves on school/system committees, task forces, planning teams, and advisory groups as required.
• Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, events, ceremonies, services and programs.
• Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
• Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding /student/school/workplace matters.
• Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to administrators.
• Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
• Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
• Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors students in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
• Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
• Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
• Performs any other job‐related duties as assigned by the Principal.
