Company Description

The Patron Services Office serves users and ensures their access to the Library Collection; advises users on the selection of documents in the open access collection and in PC-based areas in reading rooms; monitors user satisfaction with library and bibliographic information services; conducts cultural and enlightening events; cooperates with student clubs to implement joint socio-cultural projects and programs; manages the library collections; shelves items in reading rooms in accordance with the Library Congress Classification (LCC).

Job Description
• provides excellent customer service according to the requests of users of the Library;
• operates library Alma and Primo systems and a range of library online tools, e-Resources and equipment;
• provides a circulation and information desk service as part of the NU library team, as required;
• participates in the shelving roster on a daily basis and ensures the accurate arrangement of books in the reading rooms and... the book storage of the Library;
• monitors conditions in the reading rooms of the Library and reports maintenance or other problems using appropriate reporting systems;
• prepares equipment for use in the reading rooms;
• advises users on working with software applications and assists with room bookings;
• assists library users at self-service kiosks;
• informs users about library collections and new additions to the library collections;
• assists in arranging book exhibitions and displays in the Library;
• monitors the timely return of library materials by users;
• participates in operational projects, including stock/shelf moves and annual inventory of the library collection;
• assists users in searching for library materials in the electronic catalog and library open shelves collections;
• conducts events with colleagues promoting library resources, services, and recreational reading;
• evening duties and Saturday and/or Sunday work are an essential part of the role;
• hours of work may be allocated at any of the NU campuses
• timely and properly executes other tasks assigned by the line manager, Library Director and the University’s management;
• observes the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Employer`s internal documents;
• is responsible for exercising the labor and performance discipline;
• is responsible for ensuring the integrity of official documents and prevention of the disclosure or leakage of confidential and business information, as well as information of restricted access in accordance with the legislation, Charter and internal documents of the Employer;
• in case of dismissal, is responsible for timely transfer of all paper documentation, digital information, inventory to another employee as instructed by the line manager (to be certified by the act of acceptance-transfer).

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in library and information sciences or related fields of knowledge;

Preferably in higher education institutions with teaching in English.

Work experience

At least 1 year in the field of librarianship at a university or research library.

Knowledge

- knowledge of the basics of the organization of the library fund, the principles of working with the library fund;

- knowledge of the basics of library science, and computer science;

- a good understanding of effective methods of library customer service;

- the ability to use information technology in the processes of library services.

Skills

- possession of skills in preparation and carrying out of presentations;

- possession of social communication skills;

- broad general cultural training;

- problem-solving skills;

- developed skills in using library equipment, systems, and Software packages such as MS Office, etc.

Other requirements

- Fluency in English, Kazakh, and Russian.
