About the Job:

Global Health Labs is seeking an Analytical Chemist to develop and test new technologies and process that will lead to innovative life-saving products...

Role Summary:

The Analytical Chemist will work with project teams to develop and validate analytical chemistry methods to solve various problems in the global health space and then perform the analyses for those teams or make arrangements for others, including external laboratories. In order to fulfill these objectives, the Analytical Chemist should have professional experience with multiple standard techniques (such as gas and liquid chromatography and spectroscopy) and an ability to develop new techniques which may require building up instruments from component parts and then validating their performance using standard data processing tools. The Analytical Chemist should also be capable of general problem-solving in the chemistry space and advising engineering teams on the subject as needed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Set up and maintain a chemistry laboratory capable of quickly resolving chemistry issues associated with existing projects. The laboratory should be well stocked with appropriate laboratory equipment and the chemicals and consumables needed to use the equipment to solve problems when needed.
• Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of analytical instruments to ensure reliable and accurate results.
• Work with internal teams and external laboratories to determine where investments in laboratory equipment is warranted and where it is not, identify the external groups needed to meet the goals of the project and then do the diligence and relationship management necessary to deliver high quality results.
• Develop and fully validate analytical methods to solve engineering problems in the global health space and then use the methods to test samples or run experiments as needed.
• Work closely with others to guide the selection of materials and technologies as appropriate.
• Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare detailed reports summarizing findings. Present data to cross-functional teams and contribute to technical discussions.
• Continuously evaluate and implement advancements in analytical techniques and best practices to enhance the efficiency and quality of analytical processes.
• Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, and supply chain experts, to address challenges and drive innovative solutions.
• Provide chemistry-related technical support for a wide range of projects including field investigations and remediation programs.
• Coordinating with laboratory and data validation subcontractors.

Required Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a chemistry-related field.
• 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Proven experience in analytical chemistry roles, especially ones that require identifying and then setting up and validating new analytical methods.
• Analytical Skills: Proficient in a wide range of analytical techniques, including but not limited to HPLC, GC, MS, UV-Vis, FTIR, and other spectroscopic methods.
• Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Team Player: A collaborative and adaptable individual who thrives in a small team environment and can contribute positively to team goals.
• Flexibility: Willingness to travel occasionally to remote locations or field sites for on-site testing or research purposes.
• Passion for Global Health: A deep commitment to making a meaningful impact on global health by enabling vaccine delivery to underserved populations in low-income countries.
