jobs description

Do you want your design work to make an impact around the world?

Then Jobber might be the place for you. We’re looking for a Senior Web Designer to join our Jobber Creative Studio department.

Jobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with small home service businesses, like your local plumbers, painters, and landscapers, to transform the way service is delivered through technology. With Jobber they can quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments from their customers, while providing an easy and professional customer experience. Running a small business today isn’t like it used to be—the way we consume and deliver service is changing rapidly, technology is evolving, and customers expect more. That’s why we put the power and flexibility in their hands to run their businesses how, where, and when they want!

Our culture of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation has been recognized by Great Place to Work, Canada’s Most Admired Corporate... Cultures, and more. Jobber has also been named on the Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies list, and Deloitte Canada’s Technology Fast 50™, Enterprise Fast 15, and Technology Fast 500™ lists. With an Executive team that has over thirty years of industry experience of leading the way, we’ve come a long way from our first customer in 2011—but we’ve just scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish for our customers.

The team:

A great brand should be consistent, authentic, relevant, and everywhere - and that’s the goal of our Jobber Creative Studio (JSC). Through mediums like our website, trade shows, messaging, visual style, voice and tone, marketing campaigns, video, radio, etc. we want to tell the world who we are, what we do, and why we do it in a way that aligns our values with our customers' values. Branding is the magic that takes place when a person chooses a product outside of features and price, and our goal is to give people multiple reasons to choose Jobber.

The role:

Reporting to the Staff Designer, the Senior Web Designer will help drive, support, and design Jobber’s website presence. The newly hired Senior Web Designer will be the leading voice for web design and user experience across Jobber.com. This is an opportunity to take our visual brand and make the website an extension of it, while balancing a user experience that's both seamless to use and effortless to navigate. You’ll work closely with various marketing teams and front-end developers, as well as fellow Jobber Creative Studio designers. You’ll constantly be looking for ways to improve our user experience (and conversion metrics) through engaging visuals and functionality. Your creative and technical mind is definitely an asset, but your collaborative, supportive, and “give a sh*t” attitude is a must.

We’re excited about you because:
• You’re extremely confident in designing beautiful websites that help to drive conversions
• You know how to strike the right balance between brand consistency, accessibility, and user experience.
• You’re passionate about making seamless web experiences, and aim to make things ridiculously easy for the user
• Engaging audiences with website experiences is your jam, and you lean into data to help improve and drive that engagement.
• You’re able to work autonomously. If given an idea or creative brief you know what questions you need to ask to quickly get started on it.
• You’re a self-starter when it comes to design. Someone who looks for opportunities to push a brand with new creative ideas and doesn't necessarily need to be told to do so.
• You’ve got a big imagination and you love to use it. You don’t see just one solution to a problem, you see many which means finding something that works for everyone is just a couple sketches away.
• You have great communication skills and don’t shy away from discussing complicated design solutions with anyone, no matter their role.
• You’re comfortable juggling tasks. Your ability to manage your own time and ask for support when necessary is crucial.
• You’ve got client and project management chops. The Jobber Creative Studio team functions as an internal agency for Jobber. We might not have external clients but all teams within Jobber are our clients so we work with them to understand, support, explain, and pitch to them no matter their experience with brand, marketing, or design.
• You thrive on giving and receiving feedback. Some ideas will be great and others will be stinkers. You understand that not every idea will be a winner and that doesn’t phase you.

To be successful, you should have:
• Demonstrated web/UI experience working within a creative or marketing team
• A portfolio showcasing best-in-class web design
• Expert understanding of design principles like composition, hierarchy, and typography
• Strong understanding of web best practices (usability, accessibility, responsive design)
• An expert in tools such as Sketch or Figma (we use Figma), and Adobe Creative Suite
• Strong knowledge of designing for a CMS (our website runs on Wordpress)
• Experience working within website frameworks
• Great communication skills, including written, verbal, and visual
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Effective feedback communication

It would be nice, but not a deal breaker, if you had:
• Education around UX design principles
• Knowledge of front-end programming languages (HTML, CSS, jQuery)
• Experience working within a website design system
• An interest in leading and managing a team
