Nutrition and Physical Activity (NAPA) Team

Peel Public Health aims to improve early child development outcomes for all children in Peel to promote lifelong health and well-being, reduce disparities, and improve the health status of the population to build a community for life.

Demonstrate experience using project management, communication, and facilitation skills Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills, along with effective organizational and time management skills Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external partners Develop, implement, and evaluate programs, policies and processes with available evidence and data to support Nutrition and Physical Activity programming in Child Care and EarlyON centres across the region Support capacity building of professional staff focused on physical activity, physical literacy, and nutrition Work effectively both independently and as part of a team Current CPR certification, Level C or HCP, is a requirement for Public Health Nurses in the Family Health Division

Multi-Channel Contact Centre (MCC) Team

Public health interventions in the early years improve lifelong health outcomes for children. The Family Health Division is recruiting Public Health Nurses who want to work in a collaborative team environment to improve health outcomes as part of the Nurturing the Next Generation strategic priority . Nurturing the Next Generation focuses public health resources on the specific needs of families from preconception to parenting. Family Health promotes a positive workplace culture with a strong emphasis on Regional values and team-based work.

Provides direct client service over the phone and through social media including assessment, counselling, education, support and referral to community resources at the Family Health Multichannel Contact Centre Uses nursing informatics competencies in daily practice. Promotes and supports key health messages (nutrition, physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep and screen time) through excellent communication via multichannel media; including telephone, email, social media and website. Current CPR certification, Level C or HCP, is a requirement for Public Health Nurses in the Family Health Division

Infant Feeding Team
Provides direct client service including assessment, counselling, education, support and referral to community resources to support success in infant feeding Services are mostly in home but may include services within clinic or other community settings Current CPR certification, Level C or HCP, is a requirement for Public Health Nurses in the Family Health Division

What you will do…
Provide health information, teaching and counselling to clients Use a holistic approach to assess the health status and functional competence of clients with consideration of the impact of the determinants of health Identify and analyze how clients' culture, attitudes, beliefs and feelings about health influence interventions Establish mutually determined goals with client, including outcome indicators and evaluative measures Facilitate client engagement in identifying and defining health issues using community development and community assessment skills Participate in the planning, developing, implementation and evaluation of community wide and site-specific public health strategies using Evidence Informed Decision Making (EIDM) Advocate for and contribute to the development of healthy public policy Collaborate with partners to identify and address public health issues and service gaps in order to achieve improved health outcomes Develop, foster and facilitate inter-sectoral partnerships and networks using team building, negotiation, conflict management and group facilitation Demonstrate culturally sensitive approaches and strategies with diverse populations Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders Promote awareness of the Region of Peel and Public Health services Participate in research, quality assurance initiatives, and mentor-ship opportunities as appropriate Adhere to public health and nursing ethical standards and principles Fulfill legal and professional obligations and responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation and departmental policies, procedures and medical directives/acts as an ambassador for the Region of Peel, Public Health Services and Public Health Nursing Perform other duties as assigned which support the organizational goals Respond to public health emergencies, significant events and incidents as required by the Health Protection and Promotion Act and Emergency Standards

What we require…
A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognized by a Canadian University Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse by the College of Nurses of Ontario Experience in public health or community health nursing is preferred Effective written and oral communication skills Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships Analytical and problem-solving skills Advocacy, negotiation and conflict management skills Assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation skills Relevant computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and the ability to work with databases Effective public relations, presentation, public speaking, group facilitation and diplomacy skills Effective organizational and time management skills Knowledge of Peel’s diverse community and associated health impacts

Work Mode & Job Location: at 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, along with the ability to work remotely. *Please note: some positions do require the ability to travel to various sites in the Region of Peel (Mississauga, Brampton & Caledon) for home visits, Region of Peel clinics and other community partners.
