jobs description

About the role

We are looking to fill a Cloud Architect role. This role will sit in the Cloud Services Team. (though wider support across the department will also be available).

Key to understanding this role is that we are not an internal IT department: we provide managed services across many platforms which, though similar in some areas, can differ in others. This role will appeal to candidates who are drawn to a varied and evolving portfolio, which offers opportunities to engage with many projects, suppliers and clients.

Essential Skills
• Strong solution design and documentation skills
• Experience creating and presenting architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and roadmaps for cloud initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Azure services and architecture
• Strong knowledge of Cloudflare.
• Strong knowledge of Splunk.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server Infrastructure and configuration.
• Strong knowledge of Web Services, Web Apps/ IIS etc.
• Strong knowledge of... Networking, i.e. routing/ DNS etc.
• Strong knowledge of Aws Cloud technologies.
• Strong Knowledge of Powershell.
• Strong solution design and documentation skills
• Proficiency in Azure templates for infrastructure as code.
• Experience with networking concepts, security, and identity management.
• Knowledge of Azure governance and management practices.
• Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or similar.
• Soft skills like problem-solving, communication, and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Knowledge in some areas is preferable, though training can be given:
• Experience with containerization (Azure Kubernetes Service, Docker) is a plus.
• Knowledge of databases and data architecture in Azure (Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, etc.).
• TOGAF
• General Architecture web/ infrastructure skills
• DNS
• Aws Cloud Architecture technologies
• Management and documentation of assets, e.g. ensuring our managed estate is properly documented, and that all changes are subject to Change and Configuration Management policies/processes

Personal skills
• Strong interpersonal skills are important, as this role will involve liaising with customers and staff at all levels to ensure procedures are followed, and that deadlines and targets are met.
• Applicants should be comfortable with working in a structured, process-driven environment, where adherence to process and documenting activities are important
• This is a technical role, where the successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for important deliverables and provide leadership and Line management responsibilities where appropriate. Candidates should be comfortable with this level of expectation.
• We are interested in candidates with a proactive, flexible, can-do attitude, who are keen to work as part of a team that provides many services, not one. This will be a varied and evolving role, working with several different platforms, suppliers and clients, and should not be viewed as a conventional second or third-line IT support role: it will typically be much more varied that this.
• As a technical role, an appropriate level of experience and certifications (Microsoft /Microsoft Azure certifications) is expected
