Reporting directly to the SVP, Global Corporate Controller, the VP, Controller - Ceded, is responsible for leading financial accounting, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting for RenaissanceRe’s ceded portfolio. In addition to deep technical expertise relevant for the role, successful candidates will also demonstrate the ability to collaborate productively in a global, fast-growth environment. They will support strategic planning for the Global Finance team, providing direction, oversight, and execution support for critical... projects within Ceded Finance to enhance work process and outcomes. This role will lead and manage a geographically dispersed team of ~5 professionals and work closely with Finance colleagues, functional partners, and business stakeholders. The VP, Controller for Ceded Finance, can be based in Bermuda or London. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting Lead the preparation of timely and accurate financial reporting internally and externally, following required GAAP and regulatory standards, including more technical areas Manage resources and processes to ensure smooth and timely monthly close, including forecasting and actual financial reporting, in compliance with US GAAP or other regulatory requirements Work with Ceded Underwriting and Ceded Technical teams to ensure accuracy of transactions and financial disclosure Engage with internal and external auditors as needed Monitor and maintain the internal control environment, ensuring preparation and delivery of financial data in accordance with appropriate SOX 404 processes Review technical accounting memos observing US GAAP, including highly technical areas Ad hoc support to the Chief Accounting Officer, Global Corporate Controller or other functional areas within the Global Finance team, as required Strategic Projects & Finance Transformation Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement at local and global levels within Ceded and Global Finance Work with key partners to implement solutions to improve efficiency and quality of output while maintaining the integrity of financial systems and controls Engage on major Global Finance initiatives where appropriate, ensuring senior stakeholder buy-in, achievement of project milestones, escalation of obstacles, and reporting on results Team Oversight Lead, manage, and develop a team of 4-5 finance professionals, demonstrating a commitment to inclusion and RenaissanceRe values Identify and champion the adoption of processes and systems to ensure appropriate workload balancing, support team engagement, and create career growth opportunities Model cross-functional and business collaboration and knowledge-sharing EXPECTED COMPETENCIES: A university degree is required preferably with an emphasis on business, finance and accounting; an advanced degree is advantageous A professional accounting designation (e.g. CA, ACA, CPA) At least 7 to 10 years prior relevant experience and deep accounting expertise in reinsurance and insurance standards, including Big Four audit experience, preferably within insurance or reinsurance Strong knowledge of US GAAP and other regulatory reporting requirements Public company experience with SEC reporting and SOX 404 Strong working knowledge of general ledger and technical accounting sub-systems Demonstrated experience with business process review and analysis, finance systems, internal controls, & data security concerns Thought leader adept at connecting dots and sharing information up, down, and across the organization Management and leadership skills with a track record of developing talent Demonstrated experience in efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives Agile project, stakeholder, and resource management with the ability to incorporate new information and adjust to meet evolving needs or priorities Proven effective collaboration within and cross-functionally in a global growth environment Executive credibility, including Board & C-suite level presentation, written, and verbal communication skills Solutions orientation Experience with relevant accounting and general ledger tools and software, e.g. PowerBI, Dynamic 365 Our people are our most valuable resource and core to our success.
