Description

The principle function of this position is to provide administrative support and perform technical duties for the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff's Office. The main duties of the position are the collection, processing, preservation, and storage of evidence for the criminal complaints investigated by the Sheriff's Office and adjacent law enforcement agencies.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $25.39 - $27.93

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: reporting to crime scenes; collecting evidence ensuring it is properly packaged and labeled; storing and recording evidence and property, ensuring all property and evidence are preserved and accounted for according to local, state, and federal regulations and laws; comparing stolen property reports with recovered item reports; analyzing fingerprints per SLED procedures with the AFIS system for Magistrate and... General Sessions Court, testifies in court about fingerprint analysis and comparison; packaging evidence and property for shipment; processing crime scene and/or executing search warrants in and outside of the office; photographing and processing items turned evidence using a fuming process and restoring obliterated serial number on firearms; acting as liaison between EIS and IT to troubleshoot issues as it relates to evidence management, other agencies and/or vendors; assisting with and maintaining the digital recording systems machine inside the evidence area and managing the DVDs that are produced according to procedures; training new IBIS Specialist for the Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies; performing general housekeeping duties in the evidence storage area and throughout the unit as needed; ordering and restocking supplies as needed; and other duties as assigned. This position also serves in a scheduled on-call capacity that is subject to call out after normal business hours. A person in this position may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during an emergency.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Position requires an Associate Degree from an accredited institution preferably in Forensic Science or a Science related field or at least 2 years or more of directly related work experience. Must have a basic knowledge of firearms, film, and digital photography.

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in PC applications using Microsoft Office and the Internet; must be able to and willing to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology; must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, using technical and nontechnical language; and have the ability to work independently.

A qualified applicant must also (1) be a U. S. citizen, (2) possess a valid South Carolina driver's license or be able to obtain one prior to hire, (3) be proficient in PC applications using Microsoft Office and the Internet (4) must be able to obtain NCIC certification within six months of hire (5) and must be able to lift and carry equipment (minimum of 60 lbs.).Closing Date/Time
