The Opportunity:

We are seeking a technology savvy and process improvement focused Intermediate Accountant to join our Finance team. Working alongside a team of talented professionals, you will deliver comprehensive accounting services, while boosting your own knowledge, skills and abilities. Your core responsibilities will encompass:
• Reviewing AP entries for capital projects and working directly with vendors on AP related inquiries. Review and understand key vendor contracts.
• Preparing monthly journal entries, adjustments and GL account reconciliations and detailed variance analysis for project costs.
• Maintaining chart of accounts and sub-ledger related to capital projects. Set up and maintain projects and cost categories in Sage 300 and other databases.
• Assisting the project management team to track purchase orders, invoices and management time against project budgets and update project forecasts.
• Maintaining project files and records, including contracts and change orders.
• Ensuring that monthly timesheets and cross charges between entities are completed in a timely manner and trains new employees on time entry process.
• Preparing monthly work in progress spreadsheets and related components of the monthly financial reporting package.
• Reviewing backstop provisions in contracts and tracks actual costs against these provisions.
• Preparing monthly internal financial statements for Creative Energy’s US expansion and ensuring that all US payroll tax, sales and use tax, business license and compliance related filings are completed in a timely manner.
• Assisting in the implementation of process improvements and develop expert knowledge of existing systems including Sage 300 (and the related Project Job Costing module), Laserfiche (for PO’s and Accounts Payable) and Creative Energy’s internal timesheet system.
• Assisting with the preparation of annual audit and tax working papers.
• Assisting with monthly forecasts and annual budgets.

Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field. Holds or is working towards the CPA designation.
• 3+ years relevant accounting experience, project accounting experience is considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of ASPE and US GAAP.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey financial information to individuals with non-accounting backgrounds.
• Ability to collaborate and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.
• Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, in a high paced environment.
• Strong time management, organizational and planning skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet multiple deadlines.
• Proficient with technology, with a focus on Excel and Sage.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

What we Offer
• Competitive starting salary - $74,000 - $85,000; placement on the range is dependent on your applicable experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge.
