Nutrition and hygiene programs using Human-centric design (HDC) tools.
Background: Kapilvastu district, within Nepal's Lumbini province, houses a population of 686,739 as per the 2021 census. This district, with a considerable Muslim concentration (18%), exhibits the lowest Human Development Index (HDI) in the province. The selected rural municipalities—Mayadevi, Yeshodhara, and Suddhodhan—share borders with India and are home to the most marginalized groups. These populations face vulnerability in their food systems due to climate-induced shocks and economic stress, exacerbating inequitable access to livelihood opportunities.
Introduction: Kalika Self-reliance Social Center and FORWARD Nepal jointly invite qualified and experienced consultancy services to support an innovative project aimed at improving nutrition and hygiene through targeted interventions in adolescent and youth populations. The project will engage change... agents using award-winning wearable bracelets for awareness campaigns, emphasizing nutrition and menstruation.
Overall Objective of the Project: The project's main aim is to enhance the food and nutrition security of targeted households in three communities of Kapilvastu district. The project specifically focuses on vulnerable groups such as infants, young children, pregnant/lactating women, and adolescent girls. The project's key outputs include enhancing food availability and access, promoting improved nutrition, care, and hygiene practices among households, strengthening civil society organizations for community engagement and advocacy, and strong governance systems to address food and nutrition security at all levels.
Project Impression: The consultancy services required will include the following key components:
Nutrition Bootcamp Training:
• Develop and conduct nutrition training programs for the Yong Change Agents (YCA) and Community Mobilizers.
• To Facilitate design thinking workshops to generate localized solutions for nutrition challenges.
• Collaborate with trainees to create small-scale, low-cost solutions for implementation.
• Provide targeted awareness sessions for trained staff on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), Antenatal Care (ANC), and Postnatal Care (PNC).
• Train selected staff in nutrition screening at the household level, including the measurement of upper arm circumference for early finding of malnutrition.
• Develop and distribute educational materials for adolescent boys, girls, and mothers.
• Mobilize trained staff in their respective wards to lead advocacy and awareness campaigns.
• Facilitate engagement with pregnant women, lactating mothers, and families in community groups.
Nutrition specific Digital Content Creation:
• Orient and involve skilled staff in forming collaborating and informative digital content on social platforms, integrating local practices and context.
• Design and upload 20 digital products to raise awareness on nutrition, health, and hygiene.
• Innovative Bracelets Implementation:
• Utilize the Nutri-bead bracelet and "Red cycle" bracelet as advanced tools for behavior change communication.
• Integrate the design thinking tool in utilizing these wearable bracelets for effective messaging.
• Utilize the wearable bracelets to conduct awareness campaigns in schools
• Consultancy Fees and Capacity Development:
• Offer a comprehensive consultant fee offer for 3 days of onsite training and coaching services for YCA and Community Mobilizers, inclusive of travel and follow-up.
• Implement a smooth training model where the trained staff organizes future training sessions for other project staff.
