Position Summary Under general supervision, applies standard engineering techniques to design, analyze, test, maintain, repair, or improve products, components, or assemblies. Provides mining engineering and design services for mine studies (scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, and detailed design), development, and construction projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrate proactive leadership in achieving Westmoreland's Health and Safety culture including a high focus on safety within the department and actively promoting Westmoreland's safety standards during all site visits. Design and develop mine plans, visit systems in the field, and manage projects. Apply engineering techniques and analyses within the scope of the assignment. Ability to utilize AutoCAD, Carlson Mining, Minex and/or similar software packages. Prepare monthly forecast and analysis information. Create, maintain, and audit cost models for sites. Experience with Xeras cost estimating tool a plus. Provide advice to engineers at operations on the application of mine-engineering related software and tools. Champion the adoption of improved methods and tools at sites. Provide mining engineering skills for M&A project evaluation and due diligence. Perform investigations, calculations, and sketches necessary to complete planning studies, finished designs and construction specifications. Conduct studies of topography and geology to design mines, support systems, drill sites, blast patterns, and the like. Perform related work as required. Typical Physical Demands Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires constant data input for extended periods of time without leaving the work area. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires mobility sufficient to travel. Typical Working Conditions Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. Occasional domestic travel within the US and Canada to visit Westmoreland sites and/or other locations as needed (up to 20% of the time). Working on-call, nights and weekends may occasionally be required on an as needed basis. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited university. Minimum 5 years of related work experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Licenses, Registration, and Certifications EIT/FE certification preferred. Professional Engineer License preferred. Skills/Competencies Highly Organized. Problem solving. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
