Risk Management

Job Purpose

To provide effective, pro-active credit risk management for the Business and/or Entrepreneur and/or Lifestyle Lending portfolios across products. To assist Personal and Business Banking (PBB) in achieving their asset growth targets, while maintaining a quality secured and unsecured lending book within the ambit of the PBB Credit policy and guidelines.

The jobholder may be required to operate within one or more of the segments.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Account and limit management:
• Ensures terms of sanction are met by verifying Pre Conditions as per Credit Sanction.
• Regularises agreements, ensuring they are correctly signed and regulatory requirements are met (outside of CRO mandate or for complex, high value or non-standard facilities).
• Manages fulfilment of Post Conditions (once-off and ongoing) such as review of management accounts, financial covenants, specific agreements as appropriate and within mandate/sanction.
•... Attends to loading and checking of live limits (including temporary limits) and adjusting limits or reduction orders for Overdrafts / BRCP / MTL / BTL within Delegated Authority, SLA and laid down procedures.
• Actions reduction orders and approved interest changes in accordance with risk procedures.
• Ensures queries and complaints are dealt timeously to prevent possible escalations to the team leader.
• Ensures rehabilitation and regularisation of irregular accounts by engaging with relationship managers or accounts analysts, holding diary notes and following up until matters are resolved.
• Actions various risk management reports as required.
• Scrutinises the judgements gazette/weekly Alert Experian Triggers.
• Supports Credit Risk Officers in their functions where required due to mandate, complexity or experience.
• Proactively manages annual reviews and follows up on overdue reviews

Measures:
• Compliance with agreed SLA.
• All limits are loaded with DA
• Overdue Post COA target %
• Overdue Review target %
• Timeous actioning of reports and with diligence required as seen by hindsighting / review
• Complaints

High risk and distressed account management :
• Actions Damage Control report / Client Health Check to identify distressed clients or accounts which need rehabilitative actions.
• Applies a holistic client view (across segments) and proactively initiates and agrees an action plan / rehabilitation / restructure strategy with Credit Evaluation Managers and Relationship Managers. Takes regular and appropriate rehabilitation action in respect of accounts showing any negative trends.
• Applies a pro-active and solution orientated approach.
• Involves Business Solutions and Recoveries where required and supports them as needed.
• Monitors adherence to a rehabilitation plan and reduction orders.
• Proactively manages movement between monitoring and watch list statuses in accordance with risk identified and policy.
• Identifies distressed or delinquent accounts and prepare schedules for High care / Watchlist matters.
• Identifies distressed and delinquent accounts and prepare schedules for Monitoring matters.
• Ensures all temporary excesses that are not reduced timeously are added to the Monitoring list.
• Initiates issuing of S129 letters of demand as required.
• Supports Credit Risk Officers in their functions where required due to mandate, complexity or experience.

Measures:
• Hind sighting of DCR / CHI report actions
• Improved roll rate on Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 accounts
• Reduction in impairments through proactive management of watchlist and monitoring names
• Quality of Watchlist and Monitoring schedules

Collateral management:
• Actions various requests such as requests for sub-divisions, third party bond applications, release considerations, alienation of land, removal of restrictive title conditions, consent for rezoning, servitudes, establishment of townships, consolidation of property etc collateral function, details included in collateral release request
• Verifies collateral against the Securities Management Systems records when preparing agreements.
• Supports Credit Risk Officers in their functions where required due to mandate, complexity or experience.
• Hindsighting CRO.

Measures:
• Adherence to SLAs
• Hind sighting to reflect adherence to processes, SLAs and correctness iro completion of tasks.

Agreement preparation:
• Ensures correctness of the preparation by the Credit Risk Officer of Business Term Loans, Medium Term Loans, Overdraft and Business Revolving Credit Plan agreements, as well variation to these agreements in line with Sanction document from Credit Evaluation Manager (CEM) or Credit Evaluations Officer within delegated mandate and policies.
• Ensures correctness of agreement and collateral (existing and proposed).
• Reviews compliance documents to ensure borrower has necessary capacity to execute the agreement where required.
• Reviews S 44, 45 & 46 (where relevant) resolutions and ensures correctness thereof.
• Supports Credit Risk Officers in the functions where required due to mandate, complexity or experience.
• Hindsights CRO

Measures:
• Adherence to SLAs
• Meets error rate thresholds (through hind sighting)

Stakeholder Management:
• Build and maintain good rapport with stakeholders.
• Supports ecosystem strategies as needed to grow the asset book.
• Applies solution orientation to all engagements whilst maintaining excellent credit risk management.
• Supports and participates in ecosystem meetings and discussions, attending squad meetings / connects as required.

Measures:
• Stakeholder feedback

Client Engagement:
• Attends client visits as required to facilitate transactions and support management of high risk or distressed accounts. Client engagements may be in person or telephonic.
• Performs regular suite and/or CST visits
• Participates in Round Table discussions as required
• Visits watchlist clients as required in collaboration with Credit Evaluation Managers, Relationship Managers, the Debt Care teams and Business, Support and Recoveries teams.

Measures:
• Stakeholder feedback from Business
• Suite / CST visit targets

Preferred Qualification and Experience
• Minimum Qualification: Matric & a National Diploma Field of study: Finance and Accounting
• Preferred Qualification: B.com degree
• 3-4 Years Experience Description: Good understanding of Credit Risk and Compliance functions, good understanding of financial statements and financial ratios, good understanding of collateral and legal processes.
• 3-4 Years Experience Description: Good understanding of secured and unsecured products within PBB SA Business Lending.
