The primary responsibility of the EMT is to respond to emergency and non-emergency requests, provides basic life support (BLS) as needed, and transports sick or injured persons to the appropriate medical facility.Essential Functions:
The EMT may be assigned one or more duties.
These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide necessary medical care to all patients with whom the employee comes into contact, acting within the EMT scope of practice, as defined by state and local regulatory agencies.+ Respond to all requests for service, as directed by Communications Center and provide the required medical transportation in accordance with the patients medical condition and company policies.+ Maintain adequate knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.+ Comply with all company safety policies.+ Completes appropriate documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.+ Report information regarding patient condition and treatment rendered to medical staff at receiving medical facilities.+ Follow the direction of higher medial authority and/or public safety officials, as appropriate.+ Provides an environment and equipment conducive to safety for patients, family members, visitors, and employees, and in compliance with set precautions and approved standards.
Assesses risks to patient safety.+ Operate company vehicles in a safe manner, in accordance with all applicable laws and company policies.+ Maintains vehicles and stations in a clean and presentable manner at all times.+ Responds to instructions from dispatcher and drives specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations.+ Maintain all required certifications and licenses in accordance with State and local requirements.+ Maintain familiarity with all applicable maps, information resources and responsible requirements.+ Ensure he adequacy of stock levels of ambulance equipment and supplies.Additional Duties:

• Current California drivers license.+ Satisfactory driving record in accordance with Care Ambulance Driving Policy.+ Current California Special Driver Certificate, within 60 days of employment.+ Current Medical Examiners Certificate.+ Pass Post-Offer medical evaluation, drug screening and background process.+ May be subject to D.O.T.
drug testing program, including random testing.+ Other qualifications specific to the local operation, City and/or contract.+ Excellent communication and customer service skills.+ Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and medical agencies to provide the highest level of patient care.+ Ability to read and interpret all required documents and write required reports and correspondence.+ Physical ability to perform all tasks required in the performance of typical EMT duties including but not limited to bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting at established weight requirements, climbing, working at heights, etc.
(satisfactorily meet company bi-annual physical assessments/tests).+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, managers, supervisors, and external customers.
Excellent ability to communicate and work cohesively across Department lines.+ Must have the ability to consistently deliver outstanding customer service to all internal and external customers.+ Strong organization skills and attentiveness to detail.+ Ability to maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times.Within 2 months (60 days) of employment, EMT must have:
• CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator)Qualifications for Special Assignment / Fire Station Locations:
• Graduation from a California State Board of Fire Services or California State Fire Marshall Certified Academy, or equivalent preferred.+ Six months prior EMT experience.+ May not smoke or otherwise use any tobacco product while on-dutyEducation Requirements:
The individual in this position must possess the following education requirements:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)+ Current state EMT certification+ Current Orange County EMS EMT Accreditation+ Current American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider card+ Completion of IS-100 b course from EMI or equivalent+ Completion of IS-200 b course from EMI or equivalent+ Completion of IS-700 a course from EMI or equivalent+ Completion of Introduction to Hazardous Materials course+ Completion of Blood-borne and Airborne Pathogen coursePhysical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Frequently:
Ability to lift, carry, and balance 137 pounds; ability to exert on a regular basis 50 pounds of force and at times up to 100 pounds.Constantly:
Ability to bend and stoop, ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, possess hand-eye-foot coordination and color recognition, good manual dexterity, with the ability to perform all tasks related to Emergency Medical Services Duty.All EMTs must also be able to endure the following weight scale as defined:
