Director of Pharmacy

Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center

Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center operates a nonprofit hospital, outpatient clinics, and residential facilities around the city of Los Angeles. The Director of pharmacy deliver medications asked by psychiatrist and other healthcare practitioners as required for Gateways Hospitals Inpatients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• The pharmacist is responsible for the entire operation of the Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy at Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center.
• The pharmacist is responsible for upholding the security of pharmacy; Keeping the key in the possession of his/her and/or designee pharmacist.
• The pharmacist is responsible for placing electronic pharmacy orders for any and all medications as required for Gateways Hospitals Inpatient.
• The pharmacist is responsible for receiving the orders and assuring they are legible and the dosages are acceptable. If any discrepancy is present in the... order, it should be communicated to the appropriate individual(s) and resolved.
• All orders must be current and document with the name of the Pharmacist in charge of the Inpatient Pharmacy for Gateways Hospital.
• The license must be current and documented the name of the Pharmacist in charge of the Inpatient Pharmacy for Gateways Hospital.
• The pharmacist is responsible in receiving orders from prescriber(s), authorized to order controlled substances and other possible devices.
• The pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications after reviewing the patient profile and verifying accuracy of the order.
• The pharmacist is responsible in contacting the prescriber(s) or their agent, in order to verify ambiguous, inaccurate, or orders with interactions with the patients other medications. Any and all communications(s) with prescriber(s) should be documented.
• The pharmacist is responsible for ensuring all documents including but not limited to Quality Improvement, DEA bi annual inventory, all acquisition and disposition records, and procedures are in place and kept in the pharmacy.
• The pharmacist will be responsible to adhering to all the requirements of a pharmacy in accordance with the Board of Pharmacy and per the requirements of Gateways Hospital.
• In the event the pharmacist is asked or wishes to leave his/her position at Gateways Hospital, the pharmacy key should be surrendered to another pharmacist or in a sealed and signed container to the appropriate authority in the hospital, namely the Chief Executive Officer.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three to five years of Inpatient experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of California Pharmacy law, Department of Health Services Title 22, G.M.P., HCFA and DEA regulations and TJC standards
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Analytical aptitude.
• Organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines.
• Be an effective team member.
• Ability to provide accurate reports and data in a timely manner.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to plan, initiate and complete work assignments with a minimum of direction.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:
• Previous experience working as a Pharmacy Manager in an Inpatient Acute Specialty Healthcare facility
• State of California-Board of Pharmacy

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
• Computer skills-Pharmacy on line system
• Behavioral Health Medication
• Knowledge of drug interaction
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detailed information.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Skilled in interpersonal relationships with people with diverse backgrounds.

EDUCATION:

Minimum Education Required:
• Doctor of Pharmacy degree; licensed pharmacist in the State of California

REQUIREMENTS
• Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
• TB clearance.
• California Drivers License.
• Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
• Fire and Safety Training*.
• Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• To perform this job you must be able to carry out all essential functions successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the job.
• Approximately 50% of time is spent sitting, while frequently required to walk, stand and bend. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Employee will be required to lift and/or move unassisted up to 20 pounds.
