Sputnik news agency, which is part of Russias largest information agency Rossiya Segodnya, is looking for a highly motivated, creative and enthusiastic news writer with an excellent command of the English language to join our team in Moscow. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing news stories about events that resonate in Russia and across the globe for our English-speaking audience.
Responsibilities:
Producing news stories quickly and accurately on a variety of topics including politics, foreign affairs, economy, culture, and defense and security
Researching and evaluating official press releases, statements and other media reports
Collaborating with correspondents, news editors, fellow writers to compile a perfect story
Meeting strict deadlines for breaking and regular stories
Writing in various formats such as reviews... previews, features and analyses
Editing stories in accordance with the house style
Requirements:
Fluent written and spoken English
BA or higher in journalism or international relations
Strong understanding of journalistic writing
Strong translation skills (preferably Russian-English)
Knowledge of current affairs in Russia, the United States, Europe and internationally and an active interest in news
Ability to prioritize and schedule work to meet strict deadlines while handling multiple assignments
Strong sense of responsibility, an eye for detail, strong negotiating, time-management and decision-making skills.
Knowledge of foreign languages apart from English is a big plus
