The University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ), located in Doha, Qatar, offers a nursing program at the Bachelors and Masters level, as well as Foundation courses in English language, sciences, mathematics and academic skills development. The UCQ Learning Commons provides library, learning, teaching, research, writing, and technology support to the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Calgary Qatar as well as the nursing community in Qatar. The Learning Commons Mission is: To provide resources and services that enable the University of Calgary in Qatar community to discover, evaluate, apply, and communicate information for learning, teaching, and professional practice.
The primary objectives of the position are to design, deliver, coordinate, lead and assess the Learning Commons instructional programs to prepare students in becoming exceptional nurses. The University of Calgary in Qatar is currently seeking a Instruction and Collections Librarian. This position reports to the Director, Student and Enrolment Services.
The successful applicant must be able to relocate to Doha, Qatar by September 2021. This is a two year contract renewable upon mutual agreement.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to): Coordinates and implements an information literacy instruction program, applying learning theories, pedagogy and technology, in collaboration with the Learning Commons team, teaching faculty, the Centre for Teaching and Learning, and other campus partners Develops an integrated information literacy curriculum with both the Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing programs. Develops, designs, implements, and maintains instruction materials, including online learning objects and instructional modules Creates digital learning objects that are interactive, pedagogically sound, engaging to students, and facilitates the integration and use of library resources in course management systems and other online environments Identifies, implements, and promotes innovative online tools and services for both on-campus and off-campus learners Provides both general and in-depth one-on-one research consultations to students and faculty. Participates in the delivery of general reference Contributes to Learning Commons operations and initiatives, including the development of strategic and annual plans Identifies, implements, and promotes innovative ways to support the community of nurse and allied-health professionals Participates in scholarship, professional practice, and service as a UCQ faculty member. Coordinates the tasks and projects for employees staffing the circulation desk Coordinates promotion of all library services including the LC resources to students and faculty. Engages in assessment of information literacy instruction Understands the role evidence-based practice (EBP) plays in supporting healthcare decision-making and promotes the use of EBP skills and tools. Supporting faculty with research needs and skill development workshops, CPD, and orientations, etc. Organizes and supports orientations for new faculty and staff
Qualifications/Expertise Required: Masters degree from an American Library Association accredited program in librarianship or recognized equivalent Minimum three years relevant teaching experience working in an academic library environment Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and technology in the design and delivery of face-to-face and online instruction Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy concepts and applications Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Expertise in collection development and faculty research support in academic library environment Experience in reference services
Preferred qualifications: Experience in formal assessment of learning outcomes Experience with online course management systems Knowledge of instructional design and current instructional technologies and trends in electronic learning Experience with library services and resources in the health sciences Professional teaching experience in a non-native English-speaking environment
