Transpower is empowering the energy future for New Zealand, through safe, smart solutions for today and tomorrow. Our System Operations National Co-ordination Centre (NCC) stands together, T? mai Aotearoa, to keep the power flowing 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

About The Role

We have a great opportunity for an adaptable and conscientious Power System Coordinator to join the NCC in Wellington or Hamilton. You will work on a flexible, best practice roster basis including nights and weekends as part of our professional and collaborative NCC wh?nau who ensure the power system is maintained in a secure state (through economic dispatch) and events are professionally and appropriately handled.

About You

To be a System Coordinator, you will be someone who demonstrates the ability to progress through learning at pace, supported by our fantastic technical training team. You will build and foster productive working relationships with your colleagues across System Operations, our IT Division, Corporate Communications and peer contacts in generation and distribution companies. We have the latest training programmes and experienced coaches to support you to become a qualified System Coordinator.

Once fully competent you will:
• Deliver day to day real time operation of the power system by operating in accordance with NCC processes, procedures and requirements
• Provide calm, efficient and competent response to real time incidents
• Support the NCC Operations Managers in delivering agreed services to the industry
• Ensure Transpower's system operator obligations in respect of power system and electricity market operations are continually met

To be successful in this role, we require you to have:
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills and a calm, mature approach
• Mental agility to make decisions and deliver quality work in a high criticality, process-bound real-time environment
• Technical aptitude and the ability to learn; you have a high degree of computer literacy and aptitude to use specialised software applications
• The desire and ability to work shifts in a team centric environment where working together to achieve desired outcomes is the norm
• Exceptional problem-solving ability to resolve "mission critical" issues within short time frames
• Astute ability to establish and maintain relationships and influence others
• A passion for people and forging a strong team dynamic

While not essential, the following is desirable:
• Experience in a similar operational role or regulated/systems focused environment
• Relevant power systems, engineering or science qualification or competencies
• Understanding of electricity market operations, power system operations and management
