Our department

The Department of General Practice and Rural Health is an academic unit within the Otago Medical School - Dunedin Campus. The Department has established strengths in health services research. Staff in the department have active research collaborations across the Otago Medical School, the Division of Health Sciences and the Otago Business School.

The role

The Department of General Practice and Rural Health invites applications for the Assistant Research Fellow position to work on the Identifying Threshold Concepts in General Practice research project. Working closely with Dr Katherine Hall you will provide a high standard of administration and research support as directed by the Principal Investigator.

The successful applicant will be expected to:
• Write literature and document reviews.
• Research governance tasks as required.
• Recruit participants for interviews.
• Co-ordinate meetings and conduct focus groups, both... virtual and in-person.
• Assist with data analysis.
• Draft and co-author papers and reports in collaboration with Dr Hall.

Skills and experience

Essential requirements:
• Holds MBCHB qualification or equivalent.
• Current GPEP2 enrolment or within 3 years of obtaining Fellowship in the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners via the GPEP programme (this research would be a suitable activity for the research component of the GPEP2 programme).
• Sensitivity to, and respect for, cultural differences, particularly in a research context.
• Excellent written, oral and virtually communications skills.
• The ability to work independently and productively as a member of a virtual team.
• Proven ability to work effectively and collegially in a team environment.

Preferred requirements:
• Research experience, preferably in qualitative health research methods.
• Excellent computer skills, familiarity with basic software (e.g. Word), familiarity with qualitative computer software e.g. NVivo.
• Flexibility in working hours.
• Ability to travel to hold focus group interviews.

Further information

This is a part-time (0.4FTE), fixed term position for eight months.
