Ealing Councils Legal Services, a highly regarded in-house legal department in west London, are looking for talented lawyers for the following two roles
Lawyer Adult Social Care (one-year fixed term)
Our busy, friendly, well supported legal team provides high-quality legal advice and representation to the adult social care service in Ealing Council, and now require a lawyer with adult social care legal experience on a fixed term contract for 1 year. The work will cover a wide and varied caseload of adult social care law to include ordinary residence disputes, mental capacity including DOLS, mental health and the Care Act 2014. Some experience of the law around childrens social care and/or education would be... advantageous although not essential as the primary focus for the successful candidate would be on adult social care work. You will be responsible for advising on all aspects of adult social services law which may include representing the Council in the Court of Protection and County Court; some advocacy experience would be advantageous but not essential. Experience of local authority decision-making would be an advantage, but not essential given training is available.
Lawyer Litigation and Prosecutions (permanent)
You will need to demonstrate expert knowledge and understanding of the law and procedures relating to local authority prosecutions, general civil litigation and regulatory. This includes the ability to evaluate evidence, prepare complex cases, draft pleadings, case manage. The ability to do advocacy at court on behalf of the council is essential. The work will cover prosecutions for the various departments of the council to include Trading Standards, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, Planning Enforcement, non-school attendance, envirocrime offences, Highways, and Community Safety. You will manage and prioritise your workload, reporting to the senior lawyer. You will have the opportunity to work with other lawyers to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services. You will have good attention to detail, the ability to communicate effectively and have excellent IT skills. You will also have the ability to work in a largely paperless way and within a team to meet the Councils objectives.
Applications are invited from candidates who have been admitted as a solicitor, barrister or legal executive or hold an equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction with the relevant conversion to the UK.The posts are career graded with a salary ranging from 43,860 to 51,837 per annum, inclusive of London weighting.
