EMERGING INDUSTRIES & The Future of Work #emergingindustries Event 2 of 3: Cannabis Production Thursday, October 25, 2018 This is the second of a three-part series. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: This event is designed to raise awareness and encourage business and community members and to consider the impacts of new industries in our region and how this will affect the region's workforce; and to help prepare employers and workers for the jobs of tomorrow. The day will be structured into 4 sessions. Experience an exceptional day of learning with thought-provoking speakers and leaders. SESSION 1 - KEYNOTE SPEAKER Eric is a Future of Work Expert. He is a thought leader on optimizing workplace culture, the future of work, and engagement in the workplace. Eric is an entrepreneur and bestselling author of Rethink Work, Eric is the co-founder of NoW Innovations, an organization that democratizes access to the most innovative people, culture and operational practices for HR. He provides key actionable takeaways on how companies can drive engagement through connection and trust. Eric will be talking about The Future of our Workforce. The World Economic Forum says we are now entering the fourth Industrial Revolution, one where we no longer are taking steps, but leaps forward. Considering exponential integration of technology and the accessibility of information being greater now than ever before, what stories are we telling to attract the right candidates to the workforce? More so, how are we finding purpose in the work we do and happiness in the lives we live? In his presentation, Eric talks about the importance of community and belonging at work. The conversation about the future of work is bigger than Millennials and generations, and spans wider than technology and workplace aesthetic- it is about people and creating a life each of us can enjoy living through the work we do. SESSION 2 - SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Lori-Jo is Program Lead, Biomaterials with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. She was raised on family ranch in Alberta and she holds a Masters of Environmental Design (Planning). She has worked with a number of emerging industries and is Lead of Alberta Hemp Strategy. She works collaboratively with stakeholders to advance bio-based business, community economic development and the circular economy in Alberta. SESSION 2 - INVESTMENT ATTRACTION EXPERT: Angela is the Manager of Investment Attraction. She works with foreign companies to invest and locate in the value-added agriculture sector within the province and also works with Alberta companies in the agriculture sector who are seeking strategic investment to help them grow, expand and often in export markets. Previous to her current role, Angela managed projects with Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency to facilitate growth expansion both domestically and in primary markets including Europe and Asia. Angela also served in Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and has practical experience in applications of regulations in the movement of commercial goods across borders. SESSION 3 - LOCAL DEVELOPER: AURORA Cannabis Inc. A licenced medical cannabis facility that is currently constructing a massive facility (approximately the size of 21 footballs fields) in Medicine Hat. This new high-tech cannabis facility will be operational within one year and forecasts indicate that they will be hiring an estimated 400 individuals in the region. The new facility will be named “Aurora Sun”. Come hear about their industry as well as future employment opportunities in the region! SESSION 4: Panel Discussion: we will host a panel discussion with all of the days’ speakers with a Q&A session on the days’ presentation and the topics discussed.
