Opportunity at a GlanceRoss University School of Medicine, located in Bridgetown, Barbados, invites applications for faculty at any rank within the Anatomical Sciences with expertise in Histology, Embryology, and Cell Biology in the Department of Medical Foundations. The academic center has facilities in the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center, which is centrally located in the vibrant capital city of Bridgetown. West Indies, before completing their clinical training in one of Ross’s affiliated teaching hospitals throughout the United States. Education is the primary focus of the faculty. The academic year is divided into three semesters with a new class of students admitted each semester. Lectures and other educational responsibilities continue throughout the year. Research opportunities exist, primarily in the area of medical education. It is important to note that we are looking for dynamic, adaptive, flexible colleagues who are interested in teaching in a variety of ways, that are open to utilizing and embracing technology, interacting with students in small group learning formats and creating materials for teaching, which may include videos, digital workbooks, etc. ResponsibilitiesCandidates are reviewed for a role based on the following two definitions: 1-Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor Rank 2-Instructor Rank The following outlines the details for each of these definitions: 1 - Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor RankEssential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare course material (handouts, practice questions, etc.)Deliver effective, interactive lectures, demonstrations and workshopsFacilitate small group learning opportunitiesWork one on one with our highly motivated studentsAdvise individuals or groups of students in academic matters and exercise professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnelCooperate with our Academy for Teaching and Learning in supporting improved student learningWrite and review NBME-style questions for formative and summative assessmentsPrepare, administer and evaluate examinations to assess student accomplishmentsDevelop and improve instructional materials and teaching techniquesParticipate in on-going reviews and revision of curriculum, particularly with departmental colleaguesActively participate in relevant professional activities to maintain currency in subject matter competence and improve teaching and student supportServe on faculty committees as appointed or elected, and confer with advisory groups in order to modify course contentParticipate in other activities as assigned by the Department Chair, Vice Chair or Dean2 - Instructor Rank Anatomy Instructors are junior faculty that will support the development and delivery of the anatomical sciences teaching at RUSM. The post provides an excellent opportunity for trainees or other post-medical degree candidates to take a sabbatical from clinical training, or those seeking to move to an academic track, to develop their teaching and research skills. In addition, there will be time available to support candidates in preparing for professional examinations (where appropriate).Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare course material (handouts, practice questions, etc.)The RUSM anatomy lab is a digital, non-dissection, environment utilizing Sectra tables, ultrasound and other digital mediums. Experience with digital anatomy media such as Sectra ®, Anatomage ® or other is preferred.Opportunities for delivering interactive lectures, demonstrations and workshopsFacilitate small group learning opportunitiesWork one on one with our highly motivated studentsAdvise individuals or groups of students in academic matters and exercise professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnelAct as a Faculty Mentor to assigned studentsCooperate with our Academy for Teaching and Learning in supporting improved student learningWrite and review NBME-style questions for formative and summative assessmentsPrepare, administer and evaluate examinations to assess student accomplishmentsDevelop and improve instructional materials and teaching techniquesParticipate in on-going reviews and revision of curriculum, particularly with departmental colleaguesActively participate in relevant professional activities to maintain currency in subject matter competence and improve teaching and student supportServe on faculty committees as appointed or elected, and confer with advisory groups in order to modify course contentParticipate in other activities as assigned by the Department Chair, Vice Chair or DeanQualifications1-Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor RankEducation, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:PhD in an Anatomical Sciences discipline or board eligible / board certified MD, MBBS, or DO in related discipline with extensive teaching experience.Extensive knowledge of the anatomical sciences. Preference will be given to candidates that have the ability to teach across the anatomical sciences (gross anatomy, histology, embryology, neuroanatomy/neurosciences, cell biology)Ability to relate concepts to clinical scenariosThe RUSM anatomy lab is a digital, non-dissection, environment utilizing Sectra tables, ultrasound and other digital mediums.
