PLEASE NOTE: This temporary part-time Clinical Nurse Consultant position with Townsville Public Health Unit is located in MOUNT ISA.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant provides public health nursing services for the Communicable Disease Control section of the Townsville Public Health Unit (TPHU). This includes surveillance, investigation and management of notifiable conditions or conditions of public health importance, including children with elevated blood lead levels within the North-West Hospital and Health Service, under the guidance of the Public Health Medical Officer, Communicable Disease Control, Townsville Public Health Unit, Townsville.

Townsville Public Health Unit coordinates and supports national, statewide and local public health responses, as well as undertaking health surveillance and disease-control initiatives. The unit focuses on the health and wellbeing of populations, as opposed to individuals, with key objectives being protecting public health and preventing disease and illness.

The Opportunity
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will provide training, resources and expert advice on communicable diseases and contemporary immunisation practice to health practitioners and the community, and to respond to disease outbreaks. This role will also collaborate with Environmental Health and Vector control staff to initiate and participate in identified community awareness and disease prevention activities.

Salary range of $58.55 to $63.56 p.h. (Nurse Grade 7), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation. To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:
Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
Authorisation as an Immunisation Program Nurse to practice under the provisions of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996.
Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
Appointed as, or prepared to undertake training to be appointed as, a Contact Tracing Officer under the Public Health Act 2005.
Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
Travel: The position is based in Mount Isa, but travel to other locations and Public Health Units may (on occasion) be required for backfill and other situations.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

Advanced knowledge and experience in contemporary immunisation issues and communicable disease control relevant to North Queensland (including national and state immunisation policies and programs and demonstrated ability to investigate and respond to disease outbreaks, undertake prevention activities and surveillance).
Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and populations and remote area nursing.
High level verbal and written communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills including proven professional leadership skills, teaching skills and the ability to work effectively in a team, and with a wide range of clients.
Knowledge of and skills in project planning, implementation and evaluation.
Experience in or knowledge of databases, including contributing to the collation and analysis of data and the preparation of scientific reports.
Advanced level knowledge and experience in contemporary immunisation practice, including vaccine management and responding to cold chain breaches, and ability to provide current immunisation advice to vaccine service providers and the general population.
Knowledge of or an ability to acquire knowledge of procedures, policies and regulations, which have an impact upon the position, such as the Public Health Act 2005.
