The City of Melbourne Chair in Urban Resilience and Innovation was established by the University of Melbourne and the City of Melbourne with the aim to further research and research training in the field of City Resilience and Innovation. Resilient cities require new approaches and ways in which urban... systems of provision and services are designed, delivered and organised in areas such as mobility, energy and housing. But can a city plan for such innovation to happen, and if so how? How can urban innovation be harnessed to improve a citys resilience to sustainability challenges?
The Research Fellow in Urban Resilience and Innovation is a role created to work alongside the Chair of Urban Resilience and Innovation, who will take up the Chair and commence the program in February 2021. This role therefore belongs to a research and engagement portfolio operating across the full scope of the Universitys faculties and interests. The Research Fellow will work with the Chair, and colleagues, to generate knowledge and expertise that will enhance the urban professions through regular engagement, co-creation and research translation around the potential futures of both Melbourne and Victoria. They will help shape and build the future of the cutting-edge field of urban innovation and resilience research, and policy making.
The key components of this role are:
Research and Impact: Supporting the Chair to build a research and impact program that attracts substantial research and consultancy funding, undertaking collaborative projects and personally-directed projects within the realm of Urban Resilience and Innovation.
Engagement: working with the City of Melbourne and other partners and stakeholders in the academic, government, community, and industry sectors.
Translation and dissemination: disseminate research through traditional academic channels such as high-quality peer reviewed journals, through publication via key research translation channels such as The Conversation, and through participation in public lectures, policy fora and other change-influencing activities.
Teaching and research training: supervising postgraduate research students, as well as delivering occasional lectures to student audiences.
Leadership: managing scholarship, professional activities, and project administration.
