Since the introduction of a -Neighbourhood Zone- in 2012, enrolments have stabilised and vary minimally in the near future. The SFOE Student Family Occupation and Education Index for is 0.5041 which is in the Medium Band and above the State Median Index. The SFOE has risen slightly each year for the past three years and each year has been in the Medium Band and above the State Median Index. The school has a full time equivalent teaching staff of 41.8 and Support Staff of 11.2 The staffing profile includes a Principal, two Assistant Principals, and three Learning Specialists. The teaching staff includes a mix of... staff from Graduates through to many very experienced top of the range teachers. There are 12, mostly, Education Support Staff.Cultural diversity is a major feature with 40.82% of students speaking a language other than English at home; 31.52% of these students were born in Australia. 43.32% of ESL students speak Dari at home. EAL funding enables the employment of a full time EAL teacher, and lowering class sizes by operating below ratio classes. The Programs for Students with Disabilities currently has students that receive additional funding.The school has attractive and spacious grounds that include an oval, a Senses Garden, a vegetable garden, an indigenous ecosystem garden and frog pond, an orchard, two basketball courts, two playgrounds and a pirate ship incorporating a large sand pit. A large roof was erected in covering the two outdoor basketball courts. Indoor spaces include a Staff/Administration building, a main classroom block, art room and library, double portable classrooms, a gym/hall and a BER building, which comprises the Sustainability Centre, and an Out of School Hours Care Room. There are 31 classes. The school is focused on its central - improving the learning and wellbeing of every child, every day, in a safe, caring and happy environment. Every child is unique and capable of learning at their zone of proximal development. Every child is encouraged to build on their strengths, take on challenges, and extend their creativity. The school is committed to high expectations for all; building consistent, high quality evidence based instructional across the school; and implementing a pedagogy based on student responsibility, empowerment, engagement and ownership of learning. The school focus is on providing at least twelve months academic growth for every student. There is an emphasis on the academic program with rigorous, evidence based literacy and numeracy programs. The Inquiry learning program incorporates big understandings about our world, a range of learning experiences that build on each other and a range of important skills. Specialist programs in Music, ICT, Visual Arts, Sustainability and Physical Education are provided by personnel with expertise in these areas. Early intervention is a key focus of the school and Reading Recovery and small group literacy support programs are provided for students who find literacy challenging. Other programs provided to meet the needs of students, include transition programs - K to Prep and 6 to 7, LOTE- Indonesian, Swimming, Camps Grade 5 and 6 and Excursions, The Resilience Project, Life Education Van, Interschool Sport, Developmental Learning and Out of School Hours Care. RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning. As the classroom teacher gains experience his or her contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.Classroom teacher Range 2Range 2 classroom teachers play a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities and contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities. A critical component of this work will focus on increasing the knowledge base of staff within their school about student learning and high quality instruction to assist their school to define quality teacher .Range 2 classroom teachers will be expected to- Have the content knowledge and pedagogical to meet the diverse needs of all students- Model exemplary classroom and mentor/coach other teachers in the school to engage in critical reflection of their and to support staff to expand their capacity- Provide expert advice about the content, processes and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning- Supervise and train one or more student teachers- Assist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches that enable targets related to improving student learning outcomes to be achieved.Classroom teacher Range 1The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers.At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities. The focus of a range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching.
