Our client is a major engineering consultancy business in Melbourne and is looking for a Principal Power Systems Engineer to support a larger team. Associated functions would include grid connection compliance with Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and the preparation of technical documentation. The position will be required to have full responsibility in respect to the engineering activities of projects that they are appointed to.
The Grid Connection engineer will work in the engineering team alongside other project engineers and in collaboration with key internal stakeholders. Responsibilities Liaising with AEMO, NSPs and other regulatory bodies to attend to and resolve inquiries for grid connections; Prepare conceptual drawings... including single line diagrams for grid connection process initiation; Use of PSSE to determine load flow and short circuit analysis plus other energy modelling tools to create energy models for utility-scale PV systems and integration with other systems such as inverters and BESS; Assist with the evaluation of existing technical documentation from third party vendors Support the project development team with feasibility studies, financial and cost models and high-level design; Support power system studies to define the solar farm generator performance standards and grid connection requirements; Management of grid connection submissions, and scoping of tasks required to be conducted by consultants; Review of grid connection submissions finalized by others, such as power system study consultants; Assist in the design of balance of systems and BESS energy storage solutions including control systems; Attend construction sites as required for witness testing and commissioning Requirements: PR visa or Australian Citizenship; Electrical Engineering Degree (Bachelor or Master) 8+ years experience working as a power systems or grid connection engineer in Australia Wide knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., electrical code and international design standards Working knowledge in applying power system remediation products such as FACTS devices Proficiency in MS Office suite of products required; Working experience in EPC, PV and BESS is welcome and an advantage. Fluency in English required; Energetic, positive and can-do attitude and ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines; Must be self-driven, highly motivated & able to work with minimal supervision Knowledge of secondary systems including SCADA in substations; Advanced knowledge on energy storage solution applications (BSS) and or renewable generation experience track record of projects is highly desirable; PSCAD, (PSSE is essential) and Powerfactory modelling experience is required; Applied knowledge on Transmission Power System engineering and planning; Working knowledge of AEMO GPS Standards and National Electricity Rules; Good communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; Experience in engaging with and evaluating equipment vendors and service providers (including suppliers, engineering firms and EPC contractors) Please apply if you hold the above qualifications and experience.
